2 Detailed description of the template
2.1 Settings before using the template
The "Style" of the template has already been partially formatted (head 1-4 for level 1-4, postparahead for the first paragraph after the title, etc.), and the " Style Task Panel " can be opened and viewed with the shortcut keys Alt+Ctrl+Shift+S.
2.2 Typesetting using templates
Before acceptance, papers are in single-column format (try not to change any styles and margins ), without headers and footers .
1) Insert CCS concepts
You can check the articles similar to yours in the same journal, see the CCS terms they use, and then follow the steps below:
(1) First use the CCS tool to generate the corresponding code
(2) Then, insert MS-Word, the specific process is: file-information-properties-remarks.
2) Insert table
A table is a "floating element" immediately following its first text reference (Table is used in the text, not the abbreviation Tab.).
For tables, images cannot be used for presentation. Use the style TableCaption for labeling , and you also need to set the header . There are two methods:
- Method 1: Use the style TableHead setting;
- Method 2: Select the first row—right click—table properties—row—repeatedly appear as a title row at the top of each page.
3) Insert picture description
Figures are all "floating elements" immediately after their first text reference (the text uses Figure, not the abbreviation Fig.).
For pictures, there is a specific logo style — Image , and its label adopts logo style — FigureCaption .
(1) Figure description
Image descriptions communicate what's in an image to people who can't see it, and are also used by search engine crawlers to index images.
Figure descriptions must be plain text, and their purpose is to capture important information not provided in the title or the body of the paper, therefore, figure titles should not be simply repeated. How to better write graph descriptions can refer to the documents provided by the official website .
How to insert a picture description in Word, the specific operation is as follows:
2. After acceptance

The following are the template usage instructions and steps provided by most official websites , and you can check them yourself if necessary.
1 Associate ACM Primary Article Template
The specific associated operations are: File - Options - Add-ins - Management (Template) - Go - Document Template (Optional) - Find the ACM Primary Article Template save path - select the file and open it.
2 Draft view with Styles panel open
It is recommended to typesetting in the " Draft " view, and at the same time open the style panel on the left side of the editing area [File-Options-Advanced-Display-Style area pane width in draft and outline view (1-1.5 is more appropriate)].
According to the style panel on the left side of the text editing area, check the corresponding relationship between the article title, author and its information, paragraph style, etc. and the content of the manuscript.
3 Insert/View ORCID ID
Insert ORCID: Select the author's name—select the ORCID tool—enter the ORCID number.
View ORCID: Insert - Bookmark - Locate
4 Run the ACM Primary Article Template macro
In the case that the paragraph style of the article is correct with the text and references (the numbers in the text correspond to the references), run the next steps.
4.1 Reference
There are two ways to link references: 1. According to the number; 2. According to the year of the author. Follow-up is mainly in accordance with the order of numbers, and the specific process is as follows:
- Select "Cross-referencing" from the "Reference and Cross Linking" menu, then select "Float and Bibliography";
- A pop-up box asks whether the [Final Position of Reference] is correct, confirm and select "yes", otherwise select "no" to adjust;
- After selecting "yes", the pop-up box asks to select "reference type", [1] means according to the numbering order, and [2] means according to the author's year.
4.2 Cross Linking
The "Float and Bibliography" macro also automatically marks references and links to all floating elements (tables, figures, equations, etc.) in the text.
4.3 Manuscript Validation
After completing all the above steps, run the Manuscript Validation macro to check the document for errors.
