[Android -- soft skills] share a learning method

foreword

Many people want to improve themselves through learning, but there may be two problems that hinder their efficient improvement:

  1. What to learn?

  2. how to learn

This article will start from my own learning practice, and aim at these two problems, and give my own set of learning processes.

1. Gather Learning Objectives – Doit

Sometimes, when we see a concept that we don't understand, we may immediately search for what the concept is. But there are also many times when we may not search at that time, and after a period of time, we forget the concept just now, so this concept is still our blind spot of knowledge.

If the concept itself is useless, then there is no problem, but if the concept is actually a very important and valuable concept for our work or life, then we have missed an opportunity to improve ourselves.

The evolution of our cognition of things, learning can be divided into 4 stages:

  • Don't know what you don't know - ignorant and fearless ( stay curious )
  • Know what you don’t know—dance with the smell of the chicken ( in-depth understanding )
  • Know that you know—know it in your chest ( apply it consciously )
  • Don't know you know - do what you want ( internalized into subconscious mind )

Recommend a GTD tool: Doit.im to help me collect all things that I don't know but are interested in anytime, anywhere.

This is a cross-platform tool, available on mobile and computer.

**Favorite anytime, anywhere. ** After collecting, we can process these things:

  1. remove unused targets

  2. Merge similar goals

  3. Refine difficult goals into a set of sub-goals

  4. Classify into different lists to facilitate later follow-up

When you have this task list, is it still a question of what to learn? Follow the list of goals to understand each one in depth.

Usually in the process of our in-depth understanding, we will find that these superficial concepts are just the tip of the iceberg. We will discover more and more unknown concepts, and our target list will become larger and larger. As for how to classify and manage these goals after collecting the goals, it depends on your own personal practice. There is no perfect management method, only a management method that suits you.

2. Search study materials – Google

Regarding Google's search techniques, there are mainly these types:

  1. Add double quotes, "keyword", for an exact match

  2. Use * for fuzzy matching

  3. Use site: URL to search for a specified site

  4. Use filetype: file type to search for specified file types and download materials is very useful

3. Create learning labels – Evernote

After searching for relevant articles, the next step is to roughly read these articles. Generally, the time limit is within 3 minutes. The purpose of rough reading is to:

  1. Take a quick tour to get an overview

  2. Decide whether to bookmark Evernote for more in-depth reading

When reading these articles, I found that some articles are very good and instructive. At this time, the general practice is to save them to bookmarks. However, here I recommend using Evernote reasons:

  1. Cross-platform, collect everything , there is a browser plug-in on the computer to quickly collect web pages, there is a WeChat service account on the mobile phone to quickly collect official account articles, and emails can also be forwarded to your Evernote mailbox. Whether it is online articles, or your own original long-term goals, temporary memos, reflection diaries, weekly work reports, monthly summaries, annual plans, or technical blogs collected by yourself, all of them can be aggregated and collected into Evernote for unified management . Without management, there is no record. Recording is only the first step in management, without follow-up, feedback, and correction, there will be no good results.

  2. Quick editing , compared with similar Youdao Cloud Notes and Weizhi Notes, its opening speed is the fastest. Sometimes I want to record something on the computer, and Weizhi needs to open it for a long time

  3. Powerful full-text search , as long as it is stored in Evernote, even if I forget what the title is, as long as I remember any sentence or word in it, I can quickly search for it

  4. Support custom search conditions , such as tag, created, notebook and other filter conditions

It can be said that if Google is my library, then Evernote is my little bookshelf.

No tags, no favorites
If you saved Evernote but didn’t tag it, the collection is not very useful. There is not much difference between saving Evernote and going directly to Google to search.

As for why I want to label, my reasons are:

  1. Easy topical reading . When reading a unified label and different articles, we will make a horizontal comparison to have a more comprehensive and profound understanding of this label.

  2. Prevent interruption . For some more difficult labels, there may be no way to understand them all at once, and it may take a few days or even longer to learn. After collecting Evernote and tagging it, you can read it slowly one by one. If you stay in the browser, you may close this article and never open it again. Many times, we may have read a lot of articles and understood a lot of concepts, but most of these concepts are superficial, and what we really let ourselves say is not clear. This is because the understanding is not deep, labeling it and reading it many times will help deepen the understanding.

  3. for future review . On the one hand, learning itself is a process of continuous review, without review, there is no learning. On the other hand, watching my tag library become more and more abundant, I also have an inexplicable sense of accomplishment. This is to visualize my learning results to promote my further progress and form a positive feedback mechanism.

4. Organize the learning mind map – the curtain

In the process of intensively reading the notes collected by Evernote, if you think it is the key point, you might as well underline it, so that the next time you review it, it will be more targeted and improve the efficiency of the review.

When the intensive reading is almost completed, at this time, it is time to structure the collected tags, that is, to draw a mind map. Here I recommend using a mind mapping tool: Curtain

Recommended reasons are as follows:

  1. It is convenient to organize structured content and build a clear thinking logic

  2. The editing experience is very good. Personally, I think it is smoother than XMind. It is very convenient to drag and create topics. You can write for a long time only if you write well.

  3. Cloud document storage , unlike XMind's local storage, is not afraid of loss, but it is best to use the local client to edit when editing

5. Record study notes – CmdMarkdown

Use Markdown syntax to organize it into an article, and it is best to share it.

The advantages of Markdown are as follows:

  1. It is plain text, so it has strong compatibility and can be opened with all text editors. Lets you focus on text rather than typography.

  2. Format conversion is convenient, and you can easily convert Markdown text into html, e-books, etc.

  3. Markdown's markup syntax is extremely readable.

By sharing your own study notes, taking them from the Internet, returning them to the Internet, and letting others help you check your learning results, it is definitely more meaningful than working alone behind closed doors. Moreover, when you think that someone will read your article, you will be more rigorous when writing, which can reduce randomness and urge us to write higher-quality notes.

In addition, people are social after all, and we also long for the approval of others. Sharing can also increase our sense of accomplishment, especially when we really help others. A person who writes notes silently may be able to persist in writing more than a dozen articles. If he writes a blog publicly and has readers’ feedback and approval, it may be easier to persist. After all, writing is a lonely journey.

The road is long and long, and I will search up and down.
