Tencent classified the WeChat QQ failure in the early morning of March 29 as a first-level accident

In the early hours of March 29, Tencent’s WeChat and QQ businesses collapsed, and multiple functions including WeChat voice chat, circle of friends, WeChat payment, QQ file transfer, Qzone and QQ mailbox were unavailable.

It was not until the morning of March 29 that the Tencent WeChat team responded that the system was gradually being restored after engineers rushed to repair it.

Although the fault was fixed later in the day, Tencent still issued a severe penalty for the accident.

According to an exclusive report by Jiemian News , the accident was caused by a failure in the cooling system of Guangzhou Telecom's computer room, and Tencent defined it as a company-level accident.

Tencent's management believes that this accident exposed the hidden dangers of imperfect disaster recovery design and emergency plan, and the risk prevention awareness of relevant business departments is not in place, so a large number of relevant leaders have been punished. Among them, managers including Lu Shan (LS), the company's senior executive vice president and president of TEG (Technical Engineering Business Group), and Zhou Hao (harveyzhou), vice president of WXG (WeChat Business Group), assumed leadership responsibilities and were notified and criticized. It is worth noting that Lu Shan is currently a member of the Tencent General Office ( Tencent President’s Office, which is the company’s highest decision-making body) .

In addition, the two general managers and directors of the TEG South China Data Center were demoted and dismissed, and the two directors and team leaders of the WXG Technical Architecture Department were given Underperform and other ratings (two stars, the highest five stars) in the current performance appraisal.
