Ethereum mainnet POS simulation merger test: Ropsten testnet merger is scheduled for June 8

“The Ropsten merger in June was a huge testing milestone for ethereum mainnet,” said ethereum core developer Preston Van Loon.

The ethereum ecosystem is approaching a “huge testing milestone” with the Ropsten testnet merger set to take place on June 8.

According to the Merge page on Github, Parathi Jayanathi, an engineer at Ethereum DevOps (an integrated core technology department of Ethereum that integrates corporate culture and development technology seamlessly) submitted a pull request for the Ropsten testnet merge configuration code on Monday, indicating that the implementation of the merge ready to go.

Ropsten is one of several testnets created by the Ethereum Foundation in 2017 and is currently maintained by the Geth development team.

This particular testnet is considered the best replica of the Ethereum mainnet as it strictly follows the network structure of the Ethereum mainnet. This enables developers to conduct realistic deployment tests before making updates to mainnet entities.

The Ropsten testnet merger will combine the proof-of-work network (pow) with the new proof-of-stake consensus layer testnet (PoS), with block origin time set to May 30. It will truly reflect what will happen after the actual merger between Ethereum L1 and Ethereum L2, after which the beacon chain will finally be created and Ethereum will become a PoS blockchain network.

In recent months, ethereum developers have been posting their testnet progress to the community. Ethereum core developer Preston Van Loon said: "Ropsten testnet will be merged on June 8th! Merging Ropsten will be a huge testing milestone for the Ethereum mainnet merger later this year."

Another core developer on twitter named trent_vanepps said last week, “Sepolia and Georli testnets can also be set up for a trial merge before the Ropsten merge on June 8th. Although it is still a while before the mainnet merge, we are sure Ethereum is in the final chapter of PoW."

As the merger time of the Ethereum mainnet approaches, the Ethereum Foundation announced on Monday: "The Ethereum PoW mainnet and PoS consensus layer bug bounty programs will be merged into one bug bounty program from now on."

According to the past, the highest reward for users to report errors on the chain to the Ethereum development department is 250,000 US dollars, but it can also be doubled during important periods, such as upgrades on the public test network, main network mergers and other time points, which marks that from now on , the maximum bounty payout for bug feedback on the Ethereum chain will be doubled.
