4. Introduction
Channel coding technology is a core technology in the field of wireless communication and storage. Channel coding technology has developed from the early BCH code and RS code to the current Polar code, LDPC code, fountain code, etc. In this sharing, a brief introduction will be given to the development history of fountain code technology, typical application scenarios, and the differences from fixed-rate codes such as Polar codes and LDPC codes.
5. Introduction
Unlike traditional fixed-rate codes (such as LDPC codes, etc.), fountain codes are a type of rateless codes, which are especially suitable for multicast and broadcast communication scenarios. LT code and Raptor code are two typical construction methods of fountain codes. At present, two systems of Raptor codes, ie, R10 code and RaptorQ code, have been adopted by the 3GPP Multimedia Broadcast and Multicast Service (MBMS) standard as an application layer code scheme. In recent years, the application of fountain codes has expanded from the communication field to the storage field.
