JDK (Java Development Kit, Java Development Kit, Java Development Tool) is a program development environment for writing Java applets and applications. It consists of a runtime environment above the operating system layer and the tools developers need to compile, debug and run applets and applications written in the Java language.
JDK (Java Development Kit) is Sun Microsystems' product for Java developers. Since the introduction of Java, JDK has become the most widely used Java SDK (Software development kit).
The basic components included in the JDK include:
javac - a compiler that converts source programs into bytecode
jar - a packaging tool that packages related class files into a single file
javadoc - a documentation generator that extracts documentation from source code
comments jdb – debugger, a debugging tool
JDK also includes a complete JRE (Java Runtime Environment, Java Runtime Environment), also known as private runtime. It includes various library classes for production environments, as well as supplementary libraries for developers, such as internationalization libraries and IDL libraries.
The JDK also includes various example programs to demonstrate various parts of the Java API.
