Visual Paradigm Skills: The Use of Data Objects in Business Flow Diagrams

Overview: The state of a data object is constantly changing with the process. In this tutorial, we will show you how to create a data object in BPD and how to define its state. You will also learn how to reuse data objects in processes that contain different states in different instances.

Create a data object containing the state

1. Download the sample project file Tutorial.vpp .

2. Open the project file in Visual Paradigm. You can open this project by going to Project > Open in the toolbar .

3. Open the Business Flow Diagram Inspection , you can see the following diagram:

Reuse data objects

1. Continue with the flowchart above. It is assumed that the Inspection Order will enter the 'approved' state after the task Approve Inspection is completed. Let's describe this process. First create a data object from the task Approve Inspection , named Inspection Order , which is the same as the previously created data object.

2. Click the Enter key to confirm the reuse of the data object. Click Yes .

You can see that the data object with the letter 'a' in the upper left corner has been created, and the previous data object has a letter 'M' in the same position. The letter 'a' stands for auxiliary view and 'M' stands for master view. Each model element can have one main view and an unlimited number of auxiliary views. The position of elements in the model hierarchy is controlled by the main view.

3. Choose to  create a state for Inspection Order . Right-click on it and select State > Create in the popup menu...  By the way, in the popup menu you can see that the Created state is available for selection. This means that you need to create a state before you need to quickly select it.
