The principle of the search tool everything

When you first come into contact with Everything , you must be wondering why it can be so ridiculously fast? ! According to Everything's official website, it can index 1 million files in one minute. If there are more than 480,000 files on the 320G hard disk of the notebook, the time required for indexing is only a few seconds. In fact, Everything does not scan all the files on our hard disk one by one, but does it by reading the USN log in the NTFS file system.                                                        Everything can only index and search files in NTFS partitions . The USN journal in the NTFS file system records all changes made by the system to files in NTFS partitions. For each volume, NTFS uses a USN journal to keep track of information about added, deleted, and modified files. Since the working principle of Everything is based on the NTFS file system, that is, it cannot be used on the FAT32 file system, which is a limitation of Everything. If your file system is still FAT32 and you want to use Everything, you need to convert your partition format. If you are using XP, enter convert X:/FS:NTFS in the command line and press Enter and restart after the prompt. Just wait for the conversion to complete. Where X represents the drive letter you want to convert, and the data will not be lost after conversion.
