Easily solve the problem of insufficient virtual memory in Windows

Many of my friends' computer systems are Windows XP. Sometimes, when they use it, there are not many programs open, but the system prompts that the virtual memory is insufficient often appear. How to solve these problems?

  1. Antivirus Some viruses will occupy a lot of memory space when they attack, resulting in the problem of insufficient memory in the system. Quickly go to anti-virus, upgrade the virus database, and then do a good job of anti-virus measures.

  2. Reasonable setting of virtual memory Improper setting of virtual memory will also lead to the problem of insufficient memory. Under normal circumstances, the virtual memory size is 2 times the physical memory size. If it is set too small, it will affect the normal operation of the system program.

Re-adjust the virtual memory size, take WindowsXP as an example, right-click "My Computer", select "Properties", then in the "Advanced" tab, click the "Settings" button in the performance box, switch to the "Advanced" tab, Then click the "Change" button in the "Virtual Memory" box, then reset the virtual memory size, and restart the system after completion.

  3. Adjust the system space The virtual memory file is placed in the system disk by default. For example, the virtual memory file name of Windows XP is "pagefile.sys". If the remaining space of the system disk is too small, the problem of insufficient virtual memory will also occur.

At least 300MB of free space should be reserved on the system disk. Of course, this value should be determined according to the actual needs of users. Users should try not to install various application software in the system disk, and should ensure that there is enough space for virtual memory files, and it is best to place virtual memory files in non-system disks.

  4. Modify the system user authority When the Windows system based on the NT kernel starts, the system user will create a virtual memory file for the system. Some users use the NTFS file system for the security of the system, but cancel the "write" and "modify" permissions of the system user on the system disk, so that virtual memory files cannot be created for the system. Insufficient memory problem.

The problem is easy to solve, just give the system user "write" and "modify" permissions, but this is limited to users who use the NTFS file system.
