IOT(20)---What are the expected IoT application fields in 2018?

What are the IoT application areas to look forward to in 2018?

Introduction

As an important part of its tracking of the IoT ecosystem, IoT Analytics integrates, validates and categorizes 1,600 IoT projects that are actually running in the enterprise, and organizes them into an easy-to-use database. middle.

Every year at this time, IoT Analytics, a well-known IoT research organization, explores the specific implementation of IoT projects based on the plethora of information on the market, and this year is no exception. As an important part of its tracking of the IoT ecosystem, IoT Analytics integrates, validates and categorizes 1,600 IoT projects that are actually running in the enterprise, and organizes them into an easy-to-use database. middle.

Based on the update of the database, IoT Analytics released the "2018 Top IoT Project Ranking", which contains a lot of in-depth insights hidden behind the data. Only through this article, I will share some of these insights.

As a comparison, we can first review the ranking of IoT applications in 2016:

Most of the IoT projects we explored were concentrated in the smart cities (367) areas, followed by the connected industries (265) and connected buildings (193). Geographically, the majority (45%) of IoT projects are concentrated in the US, followed by Europe (35%) and Asia (16%). When looking at a particular type of IoT application, the geographic distribution is quite different: the majority of smart city projects are located in Europe (45%); (54%) areas are strong; Asia/Pacific is more prominent in smart agriculture (31%).

Compared to the 2016 rankings, smart city IoT applications (driven by governments and municipalities) overtook Industrial IoT to become the most diverse of all IoT projects we studied; Driven by building automation solutions that improve operational efficiency and reduce costs), it climbed four ranks to become the third largest category of IoT applications.

1. Smart Cities

What are the IoT application areas to look forward to in 2018?

Since climate change is a hot topic right now, we focused on London's "Smogmobile" project, a solution that includes sensors capable of measuring greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide, methane, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and microscopic particulate pollutants. Pollutants are clearly harmful to health.

Finally, NASA is using connected Robonauts for air quality testing in space. NASA has always wanted to develop dexterous robotic astronauts, so they developed the Robonauts series of robots to help or replace humans in space. NASA wrote on its website: "Space robots will perform simple, repetitive or dangerous tasks on the International Space Station. NASA has made great strides in the construction of space robots, and in 2011, they successfully sent the robot Robonaut 2 to the International Space Station and controlled it remotely.
