Research shows: Workers prefer Mac and iOS over Win or Android

A survey shows that more than 70% of employees choose Mac, iPhone and iPad, and they basically do not consider Windows or Android.

On April 26, Jamf, an IT management company focused on helping organizations get the best out of Apple devices, released a new report. The report shows that more and more companies are allowing employees the freedom to work on a computer and mobile device of choice, although the majority of employees choose Macs, iPads and iPhones.

Jamf's survey is mainly to understand "the impact of device choice on employees' work experience, the development trend of enterprise equipment", etc. This survey involves 580 enterprise organizations around the world, and the respondents include business executives, managers, IT professionals and General staff. The survey found that having the freedom to work on a device is very important to employees, and that the vast majority of employees prefer Macs, iPads and iPhones.

Jamf said that while only 52% of organizations now allow employees to choose which type of computer to use, 72% of them choose a Mac, and only 28% choose a PC. For mobile devices, the findings were similar, with only 49% of organizations allowing employees to choose their own smartphone, 75% of those who did choose either iOS or Android, and less than 1% considered BlackBerry .

The survey also found that only about 25% of the employees surveyed wanted to bring their own equipment to work, and more than 70% of the employees preferred that the company provided the equipment and then made their own choice, mainly because most employees "want to separate work and personal life."

The key findings are summarized below:

- 90% of employees surveyed believe that providing office equipment options should be the norm for all businesses.
- 68% of employees surveyed believe that having the freedom to work with devices makes them more productive at work.
- 35% of employees surveyed feel that having access to their own device makes them proud of their work.
- 74% of corporate employees prefer company-provided devices to personal devices because users want to separate their lives from them.
- Between iOS and Android mobile devices, 75% of employees surveyed choose the iOS operating system.
- Between Macs and PCs, 72% of employees surveyed choose Macs.
- 77% of employees surveyed said they would choose to stay with a company that offers free choice of equipment, or work for a company that offers similar programs.
- In large enterprises (500+ employees), 86% of employees surveyed said the choice of equipment is critical to the well-being of the organization.

Of course, since Jamf's business is to help organizations make the best use of Apple devices to work, even if the survey sample includes more than 580 companies around the world, the respondents may be more inclined to Apple device-based companies, at least Dell, Large companies such as HP and Lenovo were excluded from the investigation. In January of this year, Jamf released a report saying that the company currently has more than 15,000 global customers and manages more than 9 million Apple devices worldwide.

The Jamf survey concluded that allowing employees the freedom to work with their devices is important for employee morale and motivation.

Dean Hager, CEO of Jamf, said: “The work environment is more competitive than ever when it comes to attracting and retaining top talent in the business. And, due to a global talent shortage over the past 10 years, It's no surprise that organizations' top priority is to create the best possible employee experience. However, when employers combine freedom of technology choice with Apple, the result is greater employee loyalty, productivity, and job satisfaction ."
