Google Chrome 66 is available for download

Google recently released Chrome 66 for Windows, Linux, and Mac, and this time the changelog contains security fixes and performance improvements as well as built-in features.

Chrome 66.0.3359.117 offers a total of 62 security fixes, which underscores the importance of users installing the new version as soon as possible.

Google has paid out thousands of dollars in bounties to security researchers who find security flaws in the browser, including $7,500 from unnamed individuals who report user-free exploits to WebAssembly.

Two critical security vulnerabilities were fixed in Chrome 66, both reported by Ned Williamson and describing a free-to-use vulnerability in the disk cache.

Further Mitigations for Spectre Vulnerability

Additionally, Chrome 66 introduces new mitigations for the Spectre vulnerability discovered in Intel, AMD, and ARM processors and disclosed in early January. Google says Chrome has so far relied on site isolation to protect users, and with this new update, the browser will include a small trial version of this feature in preparation for a wider, upcoming release.

Google has some other subtle changes in the official announcement, including more improvements to how the browser handles certificates.

"The search company explained: "Chrome 66 will not trust site certificates issued by Symantec's legacy PKI prior to June 1, 2016, continuing the phased distrust outlined in our previous announcement. "

Google Chrome is now the number one desktop browser in the world with a market share of over 60%. Even though Microsoft launched its own Edge browser on Windows 10, Chrome has survived in extraordinary fashion, gaining massive market share every month.

You can now download the new Chrome browser for Windows, Linux and Mac from the official Google website .
