NVIDIA releases real-time ray tracing technology Quadro GV100 GPU

SAN JOSE, Calif. — At the GPU Technology Conference, NVIDIA today announced the NVIDIA® Quadro® GV100 GPU with NVIDIA RTX™ technology, bringing real-time ray tracing to millions of artists and designers for the first time. NVIDIA RTX is the most significant advance in computer graphics in nearly 20 years since the introduction of programmable shaders. Combined with the powerful Quadro GV100 GPU, NVIDIA RTX enables real-time compute-intensive ray tracing while running professional design and content creation applications. Professionals in the media and entertainment field will be able to view and interact with their work in accurate light and shadow environments, and enjoy rendering 10 times faster than the CPU alone when responsible for rendering. Product designers and architects can create interactive, photorealistic visualizations of large-scale 3D models in real-time. NVIDIA has revolutionized workstations by incorporating ray tracing technology optimized for the Volta architecture, combined with the highest performance hardware ever found in a workstation. Artists and designers can simulate and interact with their creations in unprecedented ways. This will fundamentally change the workflow in many industries.

The Quadro GV100 has 32GB of memory and can be expanded to 64GB by paralleling two Quadro GPUs with NVIDIA NVLink™ interconnect technology, the highest performance of any platform for this type of application. Based on the NVIDIA Volta GPU architecture, the GV100 delivers 7.4 teraflops of double-precision performance, 14.8 teraflops of single-precision performance, and 118.5 teraflops of deep learning performance. The NVIDIA OptiX™ AI-denoiser built into NVIDIA RTX enables real-time AI denoising with 100 times the performance of a CPU.

Additional benefits of Quadro GV100 with NVIDIA RTX technology:

1. Easy installation through various APIs - Developers can easily access NVIDIA RTX technology through a variety of channels, including NVIDIA OptiX API and Microsoft's new DirectX Raytracing API, and in the future will also include the open cross-platform graphics standard Vulkan. All three APIs have a common shader programming model that developers can use across multiple platforms.

2. Realistic lighting, reflections, and shadows with real-world lighting and physics—GV100 and NVIDIA RTX ray tracing technology enable cinematic-quality rendering faster than ever.

3. Powerful rendering performance with AI — OptiX AI-accelerated denoising performance for ray tracing provides smooth visual interaction throughout the design process.  Highly scalable performance—The Quadro GV100 features fast double-precision performance and expands memory up to 64GB via NVLink, making it easy to render large, complex models.

4. The ability to collaborate, design, and create in immersive VR environments—The Quadro GV100 has the highest graphics and computing performance available for VR applications, meaning designers can design through a physically-based immersive VR platform Review and explore at scale for photorealistic scenes and products.
