Affinity Photo’s “characters” provide you with handy tools

Every excellent photo editing app has many powerful tools to make your masterpieces more eye-catching. However, in the face of a large number of different types of tools, you will inevitably feel a little dazzled-what needs to be done next? What tool is the most suitable? And one of the best features of Affinity Photo is its mode of categorizing "characters" as a tool.

You can select a "role" in the "Affinity Photo" menu, or tap the corresponding icon in the upper left corner of the App window to quickly switch. Even if you are a novice, this concise and easy-to-understand way can help you easily find the tools you need to handle different tasks.

Let's get to know these "characters" below.

Photo character

This is the default "role" of Affinity Photo (unless you open a RAW format picture). Here are the most commonly used editing tools, such as cropping, drawing brushes, erasers, and artistic words. But "Image Repair Brush" is one of our favorite tools: you can use it to easily remove unwanted objects or characters in the picture, and the smart filling function will make your adjustments more natural. This tool will not only make your screen cleaner, but can also be used to repair breakages and flaws in scanned physical photos.

Development role

If you want to edit pictures in RAW format, start with this role. You can use the tools here to adjust parameters such as exposure, contrast, and color saturation to lay a good foundation for the next adjustment. You can also remove tiny imperfections in the photo here.

Liquefaction role

Using the powerful deformation engine of Affinity Photo, the tools here can change the facial features of characters, create bizarre scenery, or make some scenes more dynamic. With just a few clicks, you can bring surreal effects to your photos. Unexpectedly, the huge waves look even more thrilling!

Tone mapping role

This "role" is particularly suitable for editing high dynamic range (HDR) photos, that is, a single photo composed of multiple photos with different exposures. In theory, both the foreground and background of HDR photos should show ideal and coordinated exposure effects, but if the actual situation is not ideal, Affinity Photo can use a large number of preset options to help you get satisfactory results.

Export role

You can directly export photos in any character, but "Export Character" has prepared a series of special tools for this task. You can specify objects, object groups, and layers as slices, and then export them in various sizes, resolutions, and formats. You can also save the export settings as a preset for future use. If you need to export pictures or parts of various formats and sizes, this function will be very useful.
