RTO (Recovery Time Objective) Recovery Time Objective . RTO refers to the time between when a disaster occurs, from the moment when the system is down and the business is stopped, to when the system is restored to support the operation of the business department and the business resumes operations. RTO can be simply described as the recovery time that an enterprise can tolerate.

RPO (Recovery Point Objective) Recovery Point Objective . RPO means that after a disaster occurs, the disaster recovery system can restore data to the point in time before the disaster. It is an indicator of how much production data an enterprise will lose after a disaster. RPO can be simply described as the maximum amount of data loss that an enterprise can tolerate.

RTO is aimed at the loss of service time, and RPO is aimed at the loss of data. The two are the two main indicators for measuring the disaster recovery system, but they are not necessarily related. The determination of RTO and RPO must be determined according to different business requirements after risk analysis and business impact analysis. For the same business of different enterprises, the requirements of RTO and RPO will be different. Of course, for organizations, the best situation is RPO=0 and RTO=0, but obviously this situation is ideal for many small and medium-sized enterprises.

In addition, as the business recovery indicators are further subdivided, indicators such as the degraded operation target DOO, the network recovery target NRO, and the APIT fallback at any point in time can also be introduced.

DOO (Degraded Operations Objective) reduces the operating objective. DOO means that when the data center is unavailable during a disaster event, the service level of critical business systems running in the disaster recovery center is allowed to be reduced to an acceptable level. This means that when a disaster event occurs, in order to speed up the recovery, the key business can be allowed to recover to a lower service level. The predetermined service level that is allowed to be reduced is DOO.

NRO (Network Recovery Objective) network recovery objective. NRO refers to the time required to switch to the disaster recovery center after a disaster occurs. Within this predetermined time, it is not only required to switch the network connection from the data center to the disaster recovery center, but also to enable the user's network access to be successfully transferred to the disaster recovery center.

APIT (Any Point In Time) returns at any point in time. APIT means that when there is a logical error in the data, we need to recover the damaged data. At this time, the measurement standard of CDP's continuous data protection technology can be judged by returning at any point in time.
