Overview of Polkadot Decoded Ecology|Polkadot Decoded Review

Crust provides a decentralized storage network for the Web3 ecosystem, supports multiple storage layer protocols including IPFS, and provides interfaces to the application layer. Crust's technology stack can also support a decentralized computing layer. Crust aims to build a distributed cloud ecosystem that values data privacy and ownership.

At the first Polkadot Decoded community meeting on December 3rd, Parity Vice President Fabi shared a "Polkadot Parachain Map-Ecological Overview" and introduced the current development of the Polkadot Parachain ecosystem. The following are some points that PolkaWorld summarized from Fabi's sharing.

Three types of builders of Polkadot ecology

There are three main types of builders in Polkadot:

Chain: Parallel chain, parallel thread, bridge
Dapps: consumer applications, upper layer protocol (built on the chain)
Infrastructure: tools, services, integration, the purpose is to make Polkadot more powerful and easier to use

This sharing is mainly focused on the chain level.

Growth of Substrate-based chains

Since the release of the first Substrate project, the number of chains using Substrate has continued to grow.

Last quarter, there were 100 projects developed and launched using Substrate.

There are also some projects that have not yet been launched, and they are planned to be directly launched as a parachain after the Polkadot parachain becomes available.

Although there are indeed "universal" parachains, most projects still focus on a certain field, such as a specific application, a specific industry, and a specific problem.

As can be seen from the figure, DeFi (decentralized finance) projects account for the highest proportion in the Polkadot ecosystem. DeFi, which has a strong momentum in the entire blockchain industry, is also developing rapidly in the Polkadot ecology.

There are also many projects that are building infrastructure components and "building blocks" to make decentralized applications possible, such as Oracle, file storage, identity, stablecoins, DEX, etc. These projects may be useless to end users, but they do Build a foundation for higher-level, more complex projects.

This graph uses data from the third quarter of 2020. In the past two months, we found that the data has had some interesting changes, that is, more consumer-oriented applications have appeared. These applications are built on On the parachain, some existing infrastructure is used.

Polkadot project financing

Figure: Substrate project financing

This picture shows the financing of the Substrate project, including parachains and projects built on parachains. We can see that the financing of Substrate projects has soared recently, and more investors are willing to invest in Substrate ecological projects. In the past 3 months alone, Substrate-based projects have raised 2500 million US dollars (this does not include W3F Grant, treasury funds and undisclosed financing).

The Parachain team is gearing up...

Let's focus on the specific parachain team from another angle. Similarly, this picture was made six or seven days ago, and now the teams have published more articles to explain their progress in parachain auctions and other aspects. While discussing the support of the parachain at the base layer, the parachain team will also announce some progress of its own participation in the parachain, such as the technical roadmap, the timeline for the launch of Polkadot, the strategy of participating in the parachain auction, its own projects and the wave How does the card ecology participate in parachain auctions? If you want to understand these situations, you can pay more attention.

Parity has newly developed a page that summarizes the Substrate ecological project and will continue to be updated.
