[Spatial Database] Spatial Database Engine (Spatial DataBase Engine) ArcSDE detailed

1. Overview of spatial database engine

The concept of spatial database engine was first proposed by ESRI. ESRI's definition of SDE is: From the perspective of spatial data management, SDE is a continuous spatial data model. With this model, we can add spatial data to a relational database system (RDBMS).

SDE can be understood as based on a specific spatial data model, on the basis of a specific data storage and database management system, providing operations such as storage and retrieval of spatial data to provide a set of program functions for secondary development on this basis. At the same time, SDE can be regarded as software based on a client/server model of a large relational database, that is, relative to the client, SDE is a server, providing an interface for spatial data services, and accepting all spatial data service requests; pages are relatively dry to the database server , SDE is the client, providing a database access interface for connecting to the database and accessing spatial data.

2. Spatial database engine technology at home and abroad

Because of this, GIS manufacturer Beijing SuperMap has developed SuperMap SDX with the seamless integration of multi-source spatial data, including: SDX for SQL Sever, SDX for Oracle, SDX for Oracle Spatial, SDX for SDE.

Abroad, Oracle Spatial launched by Oracle Corporation defines a database structure for the storage and indexing of spatial data, and expands Oracle PL/SQL for spatial data processing and manipulation.
