A few words to make clear the PBO in AMD® Ryzen CPU

PBO (precision boost overdrive) is an AMD CPU automatic overclocking function

Simply put, PBO can allow the CPU to automatically overclock when it is considered safe (temperature, power consumption), try to reach its own frequency limit, and drain the maximum performance of U

Generally speaking, ryzen 2 is the official burn-out version, and the ultra-flat space is very small, so opening PBO can basically be regarded as using the best overclocking program given by the official.

However, I turned off PBO

The reason is that although the official overclocking is good, in order to improve performance, it will frequently overclock and constantly break through the 65W TDP. When I am here, it can reach 100W +, which will bring about increased power consumption and temperature fluctuations. Because this generation of U is easy to accumulate heat and not easy to dissipate, it also causes the fan to continuously increase the number of revolutions (original ghost) in conjunction with temperature changes, which brings fluctuating by-products and noise.

When I turned off the PBO, the power consumption, temperature, and noise were suppressed. It was much more comfortable to use and there was not much loss in performance. After all, the CPU frequency at this stage was almost up to the ceiling, with higher efficiency and more cores. It ’s the point. Is n’t buying the 3700X the 16 small boxes?

In addition, there is a way to mention the noise suppression. It is very important to adjust the fan curve, so that the curve of the fan speed against the temperature change is smoother, and the response time becomes longer, so that the fan will not often scream.

PBO setting path, mine is B450 mortar, oc-> advanced cpu configuration-> precision boost overdrive-> enabl or disable

This generation of ryzen can be adjusted in a lot of places. No matter whether it is on or off, there are many ways to squeeze the performance of the PBO. Try it. Whether it is frequency locking, constant pressure or manual fine-tuning, you can find a mode that suits you.

In addition, there is a small dessert in PBO mode to play, you can see my next article, AMD® Ryzen's small dessert ECO MODE
