Huawei join OIN community, signed a non-aggression agreement Linux patents

April 2, Huawei announced the addition of patent protection community OIN (Open Invention Network), and become members of OIN licensee community, agree with other OIN members to avoid royalties and non-aggression (not exercise its patent or patent claims right form) cross-licensing patent.

Huawei is a long-term member of the Linux Foundation and other open source organizations, including OpenStack Foundation and native cloud computing foundation. In October last year, Huawei has become a strategic member of the Eclipse Foundation.

The Register believes foreign media , licensing issues between Huawei suffer trade sanctions, as well as Google are the reason for the company to further embrace open source. OIN CEO Keith Bergelt told The Register, Huawei faced political pressure to allow the company leadership with a deep awareness of Huawei's positioning and sense of responsibility - not only to become a good citizen of the open source community, must also be a model citizen. He agreed with Huawei try to defend his argument.

Bergelt said that he hoped more Chinese enterprises to join the OIN, such as ZTE, China Telecom and China Mobile and other companies.
