Firefox adds "Quick Actions" to the address bar

According to foreign media Ghacks , Firefox has launched a "Quick Action" feature in the nightly version, which can launch quick action commands directly from the browser's address bar, such as viewing the source code of a page, or opening the browser's preferences.

Chrome introduced support for Quick Actions back in 2020, allowing Chrome users to run commands like Manage Passwords, Clear Browsing Data, or Translate Pages directly from the browser's address bar.

Mozilla implements a similar function. When a Firefox user types a supported command in the address bar, quick action options will be displayed in the pop-up suggestion list, such as entering "view source code", and the address bar will pop up to view the source code of the page. options.

But Firefox does more than that, it doesn't need to type anything, and displays some commands when you click the address bar, which is different from Chrome's implementation, which doesn't display commands when only the address bar is activated.

The following options are now available in Firefox Nightly version: Clear History, Open Downloads, Refresh, Restart, Open Settings.

Quick Actions are currently an experimental feature, only available in Firefox Nightly, and only for en-US locales. Additionally, Firefox users will need to enable the feature in Advanced Preferences before using it. The specific operations are as follows:

  • Navigate to about:config in the Firefox address bar and click OK
  • Search for browser.urlbar.quickactions.enabled and create a boolean preference, set to TRUE.
  • Search for browser.urlbar.shortcuts.quickactions and create boolean preference, set to TRUE

Once done, quick actions can be used by activating the browser's address bar, or by typing initials that support commands, such as "take screenshot" to take a screenshot, or "restart Firefox" to restart the browser.
