NVivo how to build relationships?

NVivo is a support software Qualitative research methods and data mixed research methods. It can help you collect, organize and analyze interviews, focus group discussions, surveys, and other audio content. The new NVivo12 more to help you deal with social media and web content. NVivo powerful search, query and visualization tools so you can thoroughly analyze your data.

Relationship is a special type of code, which defines the connection between the two item. How do you establish contact relationships recorded description of the project or premonition of the project. You can create relationships to show relationships between concepts or relationships between your research participants.

When you create a relationship, select the project items involved in a relationship, and then select a relationship type. Relationship type indicates the nature of the relationship. You can use the relationship type associations created by the system, you can also create your own relationship types.

When you add a relationship type, you can define one of the following directions:

  • One way (Anna employment Ken) →

  • Association (Anna understand Ken) -

  • Symmetry (Anna collaboration with Ken) ↔

Relationships stored in the relationship file view navigation code group folder. Relationship types are also stored here.

Like other types of code, like, you can show them to visualize relationships in the comparative chart and map browsing. You can visualize and analyze the relationship between social graph connections. (Only for NVivo 12 Plus)

Build relationships

  • Relationship consists of three parts: from relationships, to and type.

  • In the Create Code Group on the General tab, click relations.

  • Sender entry in the From box, specify the relationship.

  • In the Relationship Type list, select a relationship type or click New to create a new type of relationship.

  • Recipients item in the To box, specify the relationship.

Relations coding

You can encode the data files to collect information on the relationship. For example, you can write code at sea dumping affect water quality relationship, to prove that dumping at sea will affect water quality. Then, you can open and view the relationship between the evidence you collect.

Note: When you create a relationship between the two codes, coding a single code at the relationship will not become part of the code.

Quick coding relationship

You can use bar coding to quickly view detailed information at the bottom of the step to create a new relationship or coded, it can be encoded into existing relationships.

Using the quick code bar coding for an existing relationship

  • In the file or node, select the encoded text.

  • In the fast coding bar in input side, the position is set to relationships.

  • In the first part of the code at the drop-down box, search for or select an existing relationship to be encoded therein.

  • Press ENTER to create and coding to specify the relationship.

Using the quick code bar to create a relationship between cases and coding

  • File or code, select the text to be coded.

  • In the fast coding bar in input side, the position is set to relationships.

  • In the code at section, specify from the case for the relationship. Enter the case name. As you type, NVivo will recommend that the existing case that you can choose, or you can create a new case by entering a unique name.

  • Specify the relationship type. You can select an existing relationship type from the list, or you can create a new type of relationship by entering a unique name. By default, the type of relationship created here are associated. You can change it later.

  • Recipients specify the relationship of the case, enter the case name. As you type, NVivo will recommend that the existing case that you can choose, or you can create a new case by entering a unique name.

  • Press ENTER to create and coding to specify the relationship.

Visualization relations

View a chart of the relationship between

Chart provides a way you can visually represent the relationship by encoding files and properties. You can use the chart:

  • To see which files provide the relevant evidence, for example, who referred to the relationship of the survey participants who mainly wetland water quality is?

  • To view demographic information about a relationship already mentioned person or entity, for example, women aged between 50-59 are most likely to express the view that fossil fuels will lead to global warming.

Visualization social graph

Social graph allows you to visualize and analyze the relationship between the cases.

Amending,

You can change the relationship between the project.

Convert relationship node

  • You can convert the theme of the relationship between the nodes, the encoding of the original relationship retained in the new node.

  • In the list view, click to convert to the relationship between the nodes.

  • Press CTRL + C (if you want to delete in conversion relations, press CTRL + X).

  • In the navigation view, click the target node folder.

  • Press CTRL + V.

Merge relations

As the project progresses, you may find that the relationship between the two have similar meanings - for example, water pollution caused by industrial waste, industrial waste and affect water quality. You can simplify project merged into another relationship by a relationship.

  • In the list view, select the relationship to be merged into another relationship.

  • Press CTRL + C.

  • In the list view, click the target relationship.

  • On the Home tab, in the Clipboard group, click Merge, and then click Merge into the selected relationship.
