Is AI a necessity of the times or a sales anxiety?

In 1956, at Dartmouth College in the small town of Hannos, USA, scholars such as John McCarthy, Marvin Minsky, and Claude Shannon gathered together to discuss a series of issues in machine simulation of intelligence. They discussed it for a long time and never reached a consensus, but they gave the discussion a name: artificial intelligence. Since then, artificial intelligence (AI) has begun to appear in people's field of vision, and 1956 has become the first year of artificial intelligence, which is also the Dartmouth Conference in history. Since the conference, artificial intelligence has developed for more than half a century. From "AI, does it have anything to do with me?" to now, AI is in the limelight. The advent of large models such as AIGC and ChatGPT also heralds the true arrival of the AI era.

In the AI era, what are people worried about?

The development of big data models and the emergence of a series of AI tools such as ChatGPT and Spark have caused a large number of migrant workers to suffer from AI anxiety. Worried about whether you will be replaced? What should I do if I don’t know AI? What are LLMs? Etc., etc. So the first wave of dividends under the AI wave are: 9.9 teaches you how to use AI; those who sell ladders, accounts, and agents on a certain website; and all kinds of paid knowledge self-media, all of which are profitable The pots are full. If the topic of discussion does not include AI, GPT will feel out of step with the times. Everyone is spreading anxiety invisibly, but in this age of materialistic desires, inner anxiety has become the biggest winner.

so what?

So, is AI a necessity of the times or is it just selling anxiety? Let me start with my personal point of view: AI will not replace everyone, but it will replace workers who do not have the means of production in their hands.

AI was not invented to replace you, but to assist you. After all, it is just a tool, a tool to help you complete your work better. As a CV engineer, I spend a lot of time coding (CV) every day. At this time, it would be great if there was a tool that could quickly help you provide the products you need without spending a lot of time searching for what you need in a massive database. But pay attention to the premise of "what you need". At this stage, AI operates under this large model and must rely on some prompt words or some context predictions given by you to accurately give you the product you need.

What can AI replace?

Coincidentally, both ChatGPT and experts have given similar job types that can be replaced, such as data analysts, content and report writers, translators, etc. Data shows that nearly 72% of respondents said they believe artificial intelligence can replace some aspects of their work, but not all.

GPT has indeed weakened the work behavior of some people, and it can even be said that AI has replaced almost all novices with scores below 60. For the programming industry, those novices who copy code and rely entirely on search engines to solve problems are extremely likely to be replaced; for content creators, those who only know official clichés are extremely likely to be replaced. To put it another way, it is not that AI has replaced them, but that the development speed of the times is much faster than the speed at which these people can adapt. Darwin's law of natural selection and survival of the fittest is still in effect in the 21st century.

What can’t AI replace?

There is no substitute for human kindness and sophistication

Even though AI tools can replace lower-level repetitive work, being Chinese can be said to have a "natural advantage." For five thousand years of history, Chinese people have always paid attention to worldliness, whether in life or in the workplace. IQ is one part of a person's success, and another more important part is emotional intelligence. Chinese characters are vast and profound, and with the existing AI model, it is often difficult to guess the connotation behind this sentence. Of course it might be in the future.

Can't replace human creativity

No matter how amazing AI is, it is still a human creation, although ChatGPT seems to be very creative so far. For humans, creativity is a unique trait that is deeply rooted in our biology and psychology. It is a complex cognitive process. Currently, AI cannot match the depth and breadth of human creativity. Furthermore, creativity sometimes requires imagination and intuition, as well as the current environment and cultural nuances. However, the current big data model still lacks this kind of content.

write at the end

As I write this, I may not know why I wrote this. After reading it, I may find that the words do not convey my meaning, or I may find that it does not make sense. These are just the reflections in my mind at the moment, and serve as a warning to myself (unknowingly, I have become one of the AI anxiety patients). As AI is a product of the development trend of the times, we must face it, adapt to the development of the times, and let AI become a tool to assist us in better completing certain goals, instead of always thinking about "one day it will be replaced by AI". What a mature idea. At the same time, I also warn myself not to follow what others say (maybe this word is not appropriate here), but to look at the current environment indifferently.
