NIO’s first self-developed chip “Yang Jian”: Recovers R&D costs in one year

The "Yang Jian" chip is the first self-developed chip released by NIO's intelligent hardware team. It has an 8-core 64-bit processor , which provides powerful computing support. It is also equipped with an 8-channel 9-bit ADC with a sampling rate of up to 1GHz , which can efficiently capture laser light. Raw data from radar sensors.

Based on the powerful processing capabilities of the chip, AD defines richer point cloud features to further improve the accuracy and reliability of the sensing system; the effective ROI coverage of 120 degrees horizontally and 9.6 degrees vertically and the 8-echo processing capability also enable AD to support More complex and even harsh driving scenarios.

The power consumption of this lidar main control chip can be reduced by 50%, the lidar point cloud processing is optimized by 30%, the point cloud processing capacity reaches 8m points per second, and it can receive raw data and point cloud data at the same time.

According to NIO CEO Li Bin, the chip has the characteristics of high integration, low energy consumption, and high performance, and can provide better support for complex scenarios. He said that by independently developing chips, NIO can exchange recent R&D investment for long-term benefits. This strategy can help NIO save costs and improve competitiveness. Li Bin said that "Yang Jian" has achieved a cost reduction of "several hundred yuan" per unit.

When talking about the self-developed chip plan, Li Bin said that "Yang Jian" can reduce the cost of Weilai's bicycle lidar by hundreds of yuan, and the research and development costs can be recovered in about a year . Li Bin also said that this chip is a small test product of NIO, and it does not use too much energy from the chip team. The main chips will be developed in the future and will be released at the appropriate time.

NIO's current chip and smart hardware team has as many as 800 people and is distributed globally. NIO will use the spirit of the HiSilicon team to inspire itself.

NIO Phone can be used as a car key. It is equipped with UWB ultra-wideband technology, which can accurately sense distance and unlock NIO cars. NIO Phone also supports NFC unlocking, and can support NFC unlocking within 48 hours when the battery is out of power.
