The School of Computer Science and Technology of Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology (National Demonstration Software School) began as a missile system-specific computer major approved by the Central Military Commission in 1958. It is one of the earliest institutions in the country to establish a computer science and technology major. After more than 60 years of construction, the college has made remarkable achievements in discipline construction, talent training, scientific research, and teaching staff. It currently has 4 departments, 8 institutes (research centers), 8 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, and 1 national experimental teaching demonstration center; it has established two first-level doctoral programs in computer science and technology and software engineering. , Computer Science and Technology Postdoctoral Research Workstation. Among them, the computer science and technology discipline was selected as a national "double first-class" construction discipline, and was rated "A-" in the fourth round of discipline evaluation; software engineering is one of the first first-level disciplines established by the country to grant doctoral degrees, and was rated as "A-" in the fourth round of discipline evaluation. Rated "B+". The computer science discipline ranks among the top 1‰ in the world in ESI, with the latest ranking of 15th in the world in March 2021.
The college has 5 undergraduate majors in Computer Science and Technology, Software Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Digital Media Technology. It also has a national experimental teaching demonstration center for “Computer Network and Information Security”. In 2020, Computer Science was selected into the Ministry of Education’s “Basic Subjects Top-notch Student Training Plan 2.0 Base”. The computer science and technology major and the software engineering major are both national first-class construction majors, national characteristic majors and national "Excellent Engineer Training Program" pilot majors. Computer science and technology, software engineering, and Internet of Things engineering have each passed national engineering education professional certification. Among them, computer science and technology has passed three engineering education certifications. It is also the first computer major in China to pass engineering education professional certification. It currently has a national-level teaching team for the "Software Engineering Major Core Courses" and 14 national-level and provincial-level quality courses. Since 2009, it has won 7 national-level teaching achievement awards and 17 provincial-level teaching achievement awards.
In the fourth round of subject evaluation, Xi'an University of Electronic Science and Technology received A- for computer science and technology and B+ for software engineering.
