I took private jobs, and I wanted to follow them to the time when I was in college, helping people with graduation projects, that is, writing microcontroller codes and debugging those (they bought the hardware themselves).
At that time, it was very simple. When someone invited me to a meal, I also helped with it. It was a bit like a graduate tutor asking you to help with a project for free.
In this case, there are definitely advantages and disadvantages. From a commercial point of view, there are definitely more disadvantages; but from the perspective of personal technical growth, this cannot be measured by money.
To be more realistic, because you had project experience before graduation, you graduated and did R&D-related work, while your classmates went to the assembly line. Three to five years later, your annual salary is 50W, and your classmates are 5W, the gap will widen.
Embedded development should take private work?
Let me first talk about my experience of accepting private work. I mainly went through 2 stages.
First of all, university and a period of time after graduation [engage in the completion of the design], this stage does not make money, mainly to improve one's own technology.
In the second paragraph, I am doing private work with my colleagues, just like the one in the video. Generally speaking, they are all small projects that don't take much time, ranging from three to five days to one to two weeks. The price is not expensive, the small one is 2 or 3 thousand, and the large one is 1W+.
Veteran readers should know me. I work in Chengdu, and the wages in Chengdu are not as high as those in first-tier cities. In addition, the work intensity in Chengdu is relatively low. Therefore, I have the "conditions" to accept private work.
Of course, this "condition" is definitely not enough for private work. I also have another important "condition", which is my colleague.
He has the experience and resources of taking on private work, and he also has friends who are taking on projects. In other words: he has rich resources and experience.
Therefore, I have this experience of taking on private work.

1. Times are different
I took up private work 10 years ago. At that time, the requirements for products were not very high, and the price given was higher than now.
Now the industry is very complicated, with high requirements and low prices. You can see that there are so many outsourcing companies.
2. The environment is different
I shared my experience with you above. In fact, there are very important reasons, which are the low work intensity and the problem of receiving private work resources.
At present, there are very few people with this condition. Let alone receiving private work resources, it is a matter of essential work intensity. Not to mention 996, at least working overtime should be a common phenomenon.
3. Novices are easily deceived
Those who receive private work are generally novices or young men who have not experienced much in the world.
The typical one is that they don’t know how to negotiate cooperation and price;
Also, the other party keeps increasing their demands and doesn’t know how to refuse;

But for some college students, or those who have just started working and have plenty of time and energy, but they can’t find someone else to do, they can still do some private work to exercise themselves.

I had a relatively "successful" private job experience, but my situation is different from everyone else's, mainly because I was poor, and the era was different.
At that time, it was one thing to earn some extra money by doing private work, but more importantly, I could force myself to learn some skills.
