Metaverse: Dystopian society or reality?

I turned on social media the other day, and someone I know posted a post showing off their new NFT purchase. I turned on the TV, and Zuckerberg was explaining how Meta would change the course of the Internet. I opened my email and one of my employees invited me to her wedding reception on what they call the metaverse platform.

I usually like to learn about every new trend in the tech world. But every time I hear someone talking about the Metaverse, it's hard for me to accept. The term is overused and underdefined. Is it just about an avatar roaming a themed AR world? Is it just about cryptocurrencies? Is it here? is this real? Here's my two cents.

The whole city praises

Some might argue that the reason the Metaverse is buzzing is because Facebook Inc. became Meta. Gamers might think they've been living in Fortnite since its release. The researchers traced it back to Neil Stephenson's avalanche. None of them are wrong.

Simply put, Metaverse is a virtual yet surreal alternative world where users can coexist, trade and interact through VR and AR technologies. Just as internet veterans are starting to analyze whether it's a fad, businesses are starting to adopt it, and people have started investing in it far faster than we've seen in any other technology in the past few decades.

Etymology aside, there are some very interesting creations and interpretations in this space. From event planners to advertising agencies, video games to financial institutions, everyone is finding their way to the Metaverse.
