Why does excel show as read-only?

I don’t know if you have encountered such a situation. I have not set the file to read-only mode, but every time I open the Excel file, I am prompted to enter the read-only mode. What is the situation?

Case 1:

It may be that the file defaults to read-only mode. In this case, we can close the excel file first, right-click the excel file, select [Properties] at the bottom, and then uncheck [Read-only] in the property box.

Case two:

In another case, the file name is displayed (read-only) but the file is still editable. But when we want to save after editing, we find that the edited excel file cannot be saved. In this case, we can rename the file and save it.

Case three:

The last situation often happens. The worksheet is protected. We open the excel file and click [Review] and then check whether there is a function button of [Undo Worksheet Protection]. If there is, it proves that the excel file is in read-only mode because the protection is set. We just need to enter the correct excel password. Unprotect the worksheet to exit read-only mode.

If you forget the excel password, you can consider using tools to help us quickly remove the excel protection, such as Aokaifeng EXCEL Decryption Master, which removes restrictions, does not require a password, and supports one-click exit from read-only.
