Python's No. 1 throne is in jeopardy
In the past few years, Python has won the TIOBE Index Annual Award 5 times. It is gaining popularity due to the push from the field of data science and artificial intelligence. Since October 2021, it has squeezed out C and Java, and has occupied the first place on the list for a long time since then.
But this year, not only is Python unable to maintain its historical peak of more than 17% at the end of last year, but it is also getting closer and closer to the other three contenders for the first place, C, Java, and C++.
Judging from the data of this month's list, the share gap between C, C++ and Java and Python has become smaller and smaller, with a difference of only 0.09%, 1.1% and 1.18% respectively.
In this regard, the CEO of TIOBE said: "Whether Python will remain the first, I think it mainly depends on the popularity of artificial intelligence. If tools like ChatGPT are still hot topics, then Python can attract new users and maintain the first place.
If not, then Python might lose its number one spot. "
In addition, in this list, C++ surpassed Java and rose to the third place on the list. After swapping rankings with SQL last month, PHP continued to hold its No. 8 position this month; the Go language ranking continued to drop by 2 places to No. 14 on the list.
Top 50 new faces appear
In addition to this battle for the top spot, there are two newcomers to this month's list: X++ ( the language used by Microsoft Dynamics ) and Raku ( the fork/successor of Perl ) . They are ranked 43rd and 48th respectively.
X++ is an object-oriented programming language originally developed by the Danish company Axapta, which was later acquired by Microsoft and integrated into its enterprise resource planning (ERP) system, Microsoft Dynamics AX.
X++ is mainly used to develop and customize Microsoft Dynamics AX, which is a comprehensive solution for medium and large enterprises, covering financial management, supply chain management, customer relationship management and other fields.
Raku (formerly Perl 6) is a general-purpose programming language designed for flexibility, readability, and maintainability. It was designed in 2000 and officially released in 2019.
Raku is part of the Perl language family, but it is very different from the traditional Perl language and is considered a completely new language.
