Second rejection rate above 70%? How to submit manuscripts to OA journals such as Frontiers and MDPI?

On June 28, the annual JCR was released as scheduled, and the impact factor of this session is a general decline visible to the naked eye!

Heavy! JCR will be officially released in 2023 (with a list of impact factors to download)

The journals of OA journals are basically the same, except for a few journals, most of the impact factors have dropped!

The factors of 52 of the 61 journals in the Frontiers series have declined to varying degrees, and only 9 have increased! Frontiers in Immunology fell from 8.3 to 7.4, and Frontiers in Genetics dropped from 4.7 to 3.7; Frontiers in Oncology fell below 5 points with a new factor of 4.7; the biggest drop was Frontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, which fell from 5.8 to 3.6, a drop of 38%.

MDPI's journals are similar

Undoubtedly, under the situation that all units have higher requirements for SCI announcements, it is easy to panic when encountering SCIs generally falling and failing all the time!

02 The rejection rate of Frontiers reached over 70% within seconds

It is a very normal thing for an article to be rejected, and there are many reasons for it. Just calm down and submit again. But recently, it seems that there are especially many people who have been rejected! On the one hand, under the wave of WOS withdrawal in March this year, many journals with large publication volume and falsely high impact factors have tightened their restrictions, making it difficult to submit manuscripts. Among them, Frontiers is the most obvious. Someone's submission was rejected immediately without reason, and someone's work was clearly better than others, and he was rejected directly when he was successfully submitted for review. Someone said: Frontiers has been rejecting all submissions in seconds recently. They are not submitting to the same article, but they are still rejected in seconds every time they submit. I don’t know what is wrong.....

Under normal circumstances, after a manuscript is rejected, the editor of the journal will generally give some opinions. Like what the friend said, I don’t know what I did wrong, but the phenomenon of being rejected all the time, without giving any review comments, of course, also exists... But, if you always receive review comments or substantive suggestions and are rejected, then you should be clear that this is a high probability of Desk Reject, which means that the journal editor did not send the article to the Reviewer, but directly rejected the manuscript .

Indeed, at the end of March, someone posted a warning on the Lilac Garden Forum: They said that they were too busy, referring to the recent SCI rejection incident, so there may be many desk rejections in the near future.

Based on everyone's discussion, I found that there are indeed a lot of instant rejections in the Frontiers series recently, and the instant rejection rate is as high as 70% . Some people also said that articles in external review may also be rejected in seconds!

Some time ago, a pheasant anonymous academic website made the Frontiers series popular. In addition, the Provincial Hospital and Zhejiang Gongshang University blocked the entire Frontiers series..

It is not difficult to see that in the context of today's public opinion, the requirements for submission of Frontiers series are getting higher and higher.

Added AHCI, the impact factor of 20 journals has risen, and the source list of SCI/SSCI/AHCI/EI in July has been updated!
