But we must have the awareness of being prepared for danger in times of peace, jump out of the comfort zone as soon as possible, and have our own core competitiveness in order to be able to do well in the workplace.

The testing industry is a highly replaceable industry, especially manual testing. This not only makes us think, what is the core competitiveness of testers? As a tester how to improve their competitiveness?

After working on the test for several years, it is easy to get lost. One is that it is impossible to make a breakthrough, because I don’t understand too advanced technology, and I don’t want to do simple functional testing. The other is a personal personality problem, which is not suitable for developing into a management line, and I don't want to lead people.

For testing, first of all, it is necessary to improve the hard power of testing-testing technology . This is the most basic ability, and there is no shortcut. In the first few years of work, the main energy should be put on improving the testing technology. It is the right way to set clear goals and strive to improve testing technology.

Although the development technology has advanced by leaps and bounds in recent years, and testing methods and technologies have emerged in an endless stream, the basic testing methods and technologies are still universal. When there is no major breakthrough in development technology, there will be no major changes in testing technology. What changes is testing efficiency and coverage optimization.

At present, the testing industry can be roughly divided into three categories: embedded, Internet, and financial testing . The testing techniques in different directions are also different.

  • Embedded direction: The embedded direction mainly includes smart phones, smart wearable devices, and Internet of Vehicles;
  • Internet direction: web, mobile APP, PC client, server;
  • Financial testing methods: banking, securities, insurance industries;

What are the core competencies of testers? If you change companies and different product businesses, such as switching from the mobile phone industry to smart devices or mobile apps, you will most likely be asked "Why do you come to xx and what advantages do you have" when applying for a job? If we answer "I will test xx, my learning ability is very strong", it is far-fetched, learning ability is false, age and family reasons, can learning ability and efficiency be stronger than freshmen? Just knowing how to test xx does not reflect the core advantages, and newcomers can also test independently after training.

The company recruits you because you need to bring value to the company, so we need to prove that the company can reflect its own value after asking me. If we say that we have a strong learning ability and know how to test, this is not the core competitiveness of our testers with several years of work experience. A fresh graduate or newcomer can pass the test after studying for a few months, why should I recruit you with a high salary.

Know how to test, not just stop at being able to test. It is necessary to be very familiar with the test product or business, be able to quickly understand the key points of the test, identify the blind spots of the test, and reasonably assign the priority of the test. Test problems can be located faster, and the test direction can be adjusted according to the test results.

Secondly, for a new business and new product form, what is needed is the ability to quickly build a test framework, form a test team, and connect various departments . No one wants to work under the hands of others for the rest of their lives. This is our core competition. Strength requires our usual thinking and accumulation. Know how to test, although the work can be done very well, but it can only passively obey the arrangements of others, and it is easy to be replaced. This requires us to change and think.

Companies generally have a rank system, and we must seize any opportunity to raise the rank, which will not only bring about changes in salary, but also changes in the circle. Generally, the higher the rank, the more people you can contact, and the leaders of more important tasks are generally assigned to the backbone, so that you can quickly improve yourself and form a virtuous circle. Of course, your own technical strength must be strong, and never forget to invest in yourself.

To lift the curse, while improving hard skills, think more, and then find opportunities to implement them at work, and accumulate over time to improve soft skills and your own value.
