What is a meme?
The word "meme" probably many people don't know how to pronounce correctly, and as soon as they see it, they will be associated with Dogecoin and so on. So where did it come from?
Meme: [mi:m], originally derived from the book "The Selfish Gene" (The Selfish Gene) written by the famous British scientist Richard Dawkins (Richard Dawkins), its meaning refers to "the The thing that is similar to the role of genes in the process of biological evolution in the process of transmitting ideas, beliefs, and behaviors."

Why is BRC-20 suddenly hot? This stems from a new story in the Bitcoin ecosystem — Ordinals. Ordinals endow Bitcoin with non-homogeneous properties by engraving inscriptions on Bitcoin "Satoshi".
After three months of precipitation, the experimental BRC-20 protocol was born on Ordinals, which allows anyone to issue new tokens on Bitcoin Ordinals, which instantly attracted everyone's attention.
$ordi is the first token project on Ordinals, with an initial mint price of $0.01. On April 27, the price of $ordi broke through $1, and on May 6, it broke through $10. According to the latest data from Dune, on May 8, non-Ordinals accounted for only 27.5% of BTC transactions, while Ordinals accounted for 72.5%, of which 72.2% was contributed by the BRC-20 protocol.
In terms of transaction fees, non-Ordinals account for 45.5%, while Ordinals account for 54.6%. 54.3% of it was contributed by the BRC-20 agreement, and this figure was as high as 60% on May 7.
On May 7, the minting volume of BRC-20 inscriptions exceeded 373,451, the transaction fee was as high as 236.64 BTC, and the average single Gas was as high as about 633 Satoshi.
The popularity of BRC-20 is inseparable from its Bitcoin background, but it should be noted that BRC-20 tokens have nothing to do with Bitcoin assets.
BRC-20 tokens are simply JSON script files added to the Bitcoin blockchain via the Ordinals protocol. While BRC-20 token technology exists on the Bitcoin blockchain, they are a secondary market that requires another set of procedures to search, sort and display. BRC-20 tokens attempt to leverage their reputation to attract investors through their association with Bitcoin, but they do not share Bitcoin's security, degree of decentralization or widespread acceptance.
