The Apache Software Foundation (ASF for short) is a non-profit organization established specifically to support open source projects, and is currently the world's largest, vendor-neutral open source foundation.
ASF was formally established in 1999, and its founding team initially consisted of 21 Apache Group members. The Apache Group existed before 1999 and was primarily responsible for overseeing and maintaining the 3-year-old Apache HTTP Server.
According to reports , ASF co-founder Brian Behlendorf first chose the name "Apache" for the project because of his sincere respect and appreciation for the "Apache" tribe aboriginals (Indians), who fought with superb combat skills in war. Known for ability and inexhaustible stamina. ASF's Logo uses a feather with the Apache tribal symbol.
In "Trillions and Trillions Served", a documentary about ASF, Brian explains the philosophy behind his choice of the name "Apache" .
However, some people believe that ASF's so-called tribute to Apache tribal culture is actually a stereotype, or even a "Playing Indian" behavior.
Playing Indian is a work of non-fiction that explores the history of conflict between white Americans and Native Americans. It explores the common historical and contemporary social patterns of non-Indigenous peoples who imitate "Indian" and "Indian traits" stereotypes and images (i.e. the meaning of the title "Playing Indian"), and in particular depicts their quest for national identity Identify, but at the same time denigrate, deny and "hide" the real contemporary Indians.
So some people called on the Apache Software Foundation to end the occupation of the Apache tribal culture. They believed that the ASF had conveyed the stereotype of the Apache tribe to the outside world, which was a disrespectful behavior.
This group is currently calling for everyone to support their demands by submitting a PR in the GitHub repository or sending an email to sign.
