Whether it is Vegas Pro or VEGAS Movie Studio, it can render audio, video, and image sequences in three formats. Next, we will introduce each format to you:

1. Audio class

1. AAC Audio

AAC audio format
Figure 5: AAC Audio Options

A file compression format designed for sound data, similar to Mp3. Using the AAC format, the sound file size can be significantly reduced without the perception that the sound quality is degraded. If you need audio with small files and good quality, this format will be your best choice. In the case of the same file size, the audio quality is aac>wma>mp3.

2.aif audio

This type of audio format is a sound file format developed by Apple. Under this type of audio format, you can choose the default (48000Hz, 16-bit, stereo, PCM) template and mono mode.

It's just that when you choose a stereo audio format, there are two rendered files: left channel and right channel. You need to re-merge the left and right channels, which is more troublesome than other audio formats, and this type of audio format has a small range of use, so it is generally not used.

3.flac audio

The FLAC audio format is widely accepted by today's music players because of its lossless compression, and audio is compressed in FLAC without losing any information. In addition, it has the advantages of fast decoding speed, hardware support, suitable for archive applications, good backup and compatibility. When rendering audio, you can choose this audio format.

4. LPEC Audio

This type of audio format is .msv, which is an audio format of the voice recorder. It is very troublesome to open, so I do not recommend you to use this type of audio format unless you have special needs.

5. mp3 audio

The most commonly used and best audio format is mp3 format. I believe this format does not need to be explained by the editor. You can choose this or flac format for rendering audio.

6.Windows Media Audio V11

wma audio format options

This type of audio format is .wma, which is a new audio format with the same name as the MP3 format launched by Microsoft. Since WMA surpasses MP3 in terms of compression ratio and sound quality, and is far better than RA (Real Audio), it can produce better sound quality even at lower sampling frequencies.

Other audio formats are relatively rare and are not recommended for everyone. To sum up: If you are rendering audio, for the quality of audio, you can choose three audio formats: flac, mp3, and wma.

2. Video category

1.MainConcept AVC/AAC&MainConcept MPEG-2

The first one will not be introduced. If you want to know more, you can go to the MP4 rendering format setting interface to view it; the second one is the mpg format of DVD video stream. Those who need a specific format can choose this category. It also includes options for Blu-ray Disc, the video format is .m2v; the option format for high-definition (HDV) is: .m2t.

2.RealMedia 9

RealMedia rendering options
Figure 12: RealMedia rendering options

RealMedia is a proprietary multimedia container format developed by RealNetworks. Its extension is "RM". It is commonly used to connect RealVideo and RealAudio and to stream content on the Internet. Usually these streams are in CBR (Constant Bit Rate). It is rarely used, and such formats can only be played normally on some specific players, so it is not recommended for everyone to use them.

3.Sony AVC/MVC

Most common rendering options for MP4 in Movie Studio
Figure 13: Sony AVC/MVC rendering options

This is the most commonly used rendering format option, generally choose Internet 1920x1080-30p or Internet 1280x720-30p (the difference is that the resolution is different). Of course, Blu-ray formats (.avc and .m2ts) can also be selected in this directory. Editor's recommendation: If you want to upload your video to Youku, Station B and other platforms, you can choose to render it in MP4 format of 1920x1080-30p.

The format of Windows video is .avi, the format of Windows Media Video V11 video is .wmv, the format of Sony MXF (HDCAM SR) video is .mxf, and the format of XDCAM EX option video is .mp4.

4.Windows Media Video V11

Figure 14: WMV Video Format Options

This type of video format is .wmv, which has high compatibility with some software (such as Vegas). When encountering videos that cannot be opened due to encoding problems or format problems, converting to .wmv format is also a good choice~

If the requirements for image quality are not very high, it is recommended that you use this format, which is small in size and has a wide range of applications.

5. Windows Video

Such videos are in .avi format. The advantage is that it can be used across multiple platforms, but it also has disadvantages: it is bulky, and the compression standards are not uniform. There are often situations where some software cannot be opened due to encoding problems. If you just want to promote your video across platforms, you can use this video format. If you want to edit video, I do not recommend you to use this format.

3. Pictures

Image sequence:

Using Vegas, you can easily convert video to image sequence (similar to sequence frame images), image formats include: bmp, jpeg, png, tiff, wmphoto, dpx, exr.
