My name is Xiao Shaocong. My nickname is Tie'an. Many friends and colleagues say that this nickname is very strange. This nickname comes from my high school alma mater, Yang Xianyi Middle School. General Yang Xianyi, courtesy name Xuehua and No. Tie'an, is a pioneer of modern Chinese aviation and is known as the "Father of China's Revolutionary Air Force".
This is a magical school, which produced many "18-year-old engineers". During high school, we were able to compete in various computer competitions, and the teachers directly guided us to obtain national certification for intermediate or even senior programmers. It can be said that I am the beneficiary of this generation of students, and "Aim for the sky" has also become one of the mottos in my life. Newborn calves are not afraid of tigers. Recalling the experience of PK with college students and even master students, and fighting day and night to prepare for competition and certification, every moment is a good memory. This year, I returned to my alma mater on Alumni Day. Facing the solemn portrait of General Yang Xianyi, I met the enlightenment teacher who has worked tirelessly to cultivate him. I'm a programmer and have written Basic, C, JAVA, PHP and even ActionScript (the scripting language in Flash). I am a system administrator, I have worked on Windows, I have taken the RHCA exam of Red Hat Linux, and I have served SUSE Linux for major banks. And I am now a PGer, which is why I entered Alibaba Cloud.
Before entering Alibaba Cloud, I was already a "product manager", but I had to put double quotes for it. In the original company, the work of the product manager I contacted was only to provide bidding support for sales, to meet customers everywhere and explain product features, and of course to be responsible for the implementation of the project. Strictly speaking, it should be technical pre-sales.
When I first joined Alibaba, I took over the job of product manager of ApsaraDB for PostgreSQL version. I remember my boss asked me a question: If you are not in Alibaba Cloud today and you open your own company to run this product, what are you going to do?
This may just be a common question in Ali, but here it woke me up. In the Internet industry, product managers are usually referred to as PDs for short, which are actually equivalent to the CEO of a product, which means that PDs must be responsible for everything about the product. Rest assured, from the perspective of user needs, the number of PostgreSQL users in China in 2015 was not many, and the number of users in stock was limited. In this case, since there are not many users, we will create users. I choose to start from the ecology. In the same year, thanks to PGer's trust, he took over as the chairman of PostgreSQL China User Association. The biggest insight in operating an open source community is openness and tolerance, and the open source community does not belong to any one company. There are nearly 10 PostgreSQL distribution manufacturers in the PostgreSQL community, and Dana from the big cloud computing companies in China often conducts technical exchanges. Promoted by an open community, PostgreSQL has developed rapidly. With the expansion of the market base, Alibaba Cloud's cloud database PostgreSQL has also been recognized by the market and achieved good results.
