I think there are two kinds of evolution, one is the evolution of genes, and the other is the evolution of civilization.
Genetically speaking, have humans stopped evolving? Evolution must first have a screening mechanism, and good evolution can be passed on to the next generation. Bad genes cannot be passed on to the next generation because a mate cannot be found.
In monkey groups, if the screening mechanism is based on strength, the stronger the monkey, the more right to mate. Then the genes that lead to the strong will be passed on to the next generation through the monkey king, while the genes that cause the weak will not be passed on. To the next generation, and extinction, so the monkeys in the whole monkey group will turn out to be stronger. If smartness is used as a screening mechanism, the smarter monkeys can obtain more mating rights, then the genes that lead to smartness will be passed on to the next generation, and the genes that lead to unintelligence will be extinct because they cannot be passed on to the next generation. Therefore, the monkeys in the whole monkey group will become more and more intelligent.
However, in the human race, especially in modern times, after monogamy, no matter whether the person has smarter genes or stronger genes, they cannot have more offspring, but pass good genes on. And as the economy gets more developed, the smarter people have fewer offspring. On the contrary, the average person has more of the next generation. This reminds me of an American movie "The Evolution of Stupid". It is for this reason that the overall IQ of human beings is continuously declining.
Therefore, in the human population, the good genes produced by mutation cannot have more next generation, and this good gene cannot be passed on to more people, which leads to the stop of human genetic evolution.
But human civilization is constantly evolving. The common denominator between civilization evolution and genetic evolution is that, first, there is variation in the process of transmission, and second, civilizations or genes that have never appeared before are combined due to the collision between different civilizations or genes.
The difference between the evolution of civilization and the evolution of genes is that genes need to be passed on from generation to generation, and can only be passed on to the next generation. Civilization only needs written or oral transmission, and it spreads widely, not only to the next generation, but also to anyone. And genes can only evolve once in an individual, while civilization can evolve multiple times in an individual. Moreover, civilizations can also collide with sparks between different branches, resulting in evolution. And if the different branches of genes are too far apart, they will not be able to produce the next generation, resulting in evolution. This is why civilizations are evolving faster and faster, exponentially.
The evolution of genes is only the evolution of the carrier itself that carries the genes. Antelopes have evolved fast hooves, tigers have evolved sharp teeth, and monkeys have evolved smart brains. The evolution of civilization is the cognition of the world, so the evolution of genes cannot evolve planes, cars, and the Internet, but civilization can. The evolution of civilization allowed human beings to learn to smelt iron, refine oil, and thus evolve automobiles. The evolution of civilization allowed humans to learn to use electricity, thus evolving the Internet and so on.
Civilizations, like genes, can only evolve through constant collisions and transfers. This is why after the Qing Dynasty closed the country, Chinese civilization fell so far behind Western civilization, and after the reform and opening up, Chinese civilization was rekindled.
Civilization, like genes, can only adapt to the environment and not be extinct only by continuous evolution. Among the four ancient civilizations, why only the Chinese civilization has survived and all other civilizations have disappeared? I think an important reason is that Chinese civilization has been evolving in the process of colliding with other civilizations.
Human genes have stopped evolving, but human civilization is evolving more rapidly, which is one of the reasons why humans can become the masters of the earth.
