Our country's low-code/no-code era is coming soon, developers, are you ready?

On January 19, 2021, Mendix, which has been ranked as the "Leader" in Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Low-Code Application Platforms and Multi-Experience Development Platforms for two consecutive years, officially announced the introduction of its low-code software rapid development platform into the Chinese market.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant, which is well-known in the field of enterprise software and technology, is almost an important endorsement of the strength of the globally recognized IT vendors, and the leaders who enter the upper right part of the Magic Quadrant are the best quality vendors with comprehensive capabilities.

The topic of low code/no code has been hotly discussed in the domestic development community for more than 2 years, and it is still controversial. Mendix's entry may be an important information and reference for China's low-code market.

CSDN interviewed Liang Naiming, senior vice president of Siemens digital industrial software and managing director of Greater China (Siemens acquired Mendix in 2018 and retained the brand), and listened to him to talk about Mendix's strategy and views on entering the Chinese market.

Comprehensive and mature product line, supported by Siemens Mindsphere

Mendix was established in Rotterdam, the Netherlands in 2005, and is currently headquartered in Boston, USA, with more than 900 employees.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant leader is not a mere name, Mendix provides mature products in the low-code field.

According to the information of Mendix, the same as the industry generally taking into account non-professional developers and professional developers, Mendix's products are divided into two parts. Mendix Studio is a development environment designed for non-professional developers. It can be used by business application level and non-IT personnel. It to create applications;

Professional developers can use the more advanced Studio Pro environment to build complex large-scale enterprise-level applications, and can also add custom components as needed, such as secondary development based on SAP.

The Mendix platform has more than 1,000 common shared components, including external connectors, mobile applications, small components, application modules, etc. In addition, the cloud-native Mendix platform also contains a variety of key functions, such as AI-enhanced development service Mendix Assist Performance Optimizer, manual workflow modeler and engine Mendix Workflow Editor, integrated development environment IDE, multi-cloud kubernetes deployment, and more.

In addition, after Mendix was acquired by Siemens, it was incorporated into Siemens' digital industrial software. Mendix was integrated with Siemens MindSphere industrial IoT operating system and became an important software part of the Siemens cloud platform.

Siemens has always regarded China as one of the world's largest technology markets. The combination of Mendix+MindSphere will also help Mendix develop manufacturing and industrial Internet markets in China.

Acquire important top customers, low code allows enterprises to build ecosystems faster

Although Mendix has just announced its entry into the Chinese market, in fact, in the previous year and a half, Mendix has accumulated some important head customers in China.

In the interview, Liang Naiming mentioned that the No. 1 IT manufacturer in China began to adopt Mendix after 6 months of evaluation, and piloted 18 applications. Now there are nearly a hundred applications implemented in Mendix, covering international and domestic Business.

Another customer of Mendix, Foxconn's Yunzhihui Technology, also praised "10 days (income) to recover (to) Mendix investment". There are also some customers who hope Mendix will introduce both Mendix and Mindsphere's solutions.

When sharing customer stories, Liang Naiming also mentioned another important and well-understood information. Low code is not only used for a single project, SAIC is still using Mendix to select and pilot enterprise application group development. Low-code development lowers the development threshold. SAIC's upstream and downstream suppliers will be more easily connected to SAIC's digital system. Low-code will help companies quickly establish and expand their own ecosystem.

In the recent discussion about low code, there is a saying that may alleviate the anxiety of some professional developers. With the rapid increase in the speed and number of applications demanded by digital enterprises, the expectations of various departments of the enterprise for IT are rapidly increasing, and business needs are much faster than IT capabilities. At the other end, the competitive advantages of the Internet and IT manufacturers make it difficult for companies to obtain excellent IT talents, and companies need more non-professional developers to participate in application development. Therefore, it is not that developers are going to be "abandoned", but that developers are not enough.

IT is devouring everything, and the wave of low-code is already happening. Developers, are you ready?
