Every day, my classmates ask whether I am suitable for learning graphic design. In fact, my academic qualifications, experience, current work, age, and region are not very relevant. The only thing that matters is myself!
1. Is the foundation of art important when learning design?
If you have art skills, you can add points, but it doesn’t matter if you don’t. Although graphic design is basically a computer software operation, it is better to understand some principles of color and layout, some practice and theory of sketching, watercolor, etc. It is not necessary to learn watercolor sketch and then graphic design, you can finish graphic design , While working, I will learn watercolor drawing in my spare time, and it is easy to go astray if I learn to sketch blindly without a preliminary feeling.
2. How to start design without foundation?
Any rule in graphic design can be broken. At the beginning of learning graphic design, you must first cultivate your own sense of beauty. Watching the works of graphic design masters can cultivate your taste and appreciation ability, and think about why you want to do so. The next step is to familiarize yourself with software related to graphic design and imitate the works of masters. Some people are born with good aesthetics, while others need to be cultivated slowly. You can practice sketching when you have time, and the ability to quickly grasp shapes is also very important. When you learn more about design in the future, drawing skills will become more important. Computer-made things feel cold, but hand-painted can be full of personality.
3. What are the basic skills required for design?
First: skills. Outline simple lines to express the image, simple coloring to express the material, it requires fast, concise, and low-level precision.
Second: thinking. Imagine what you want to present is to imitate the imagination or memory in the brain. The important thing is that you have that thing in your mind, and then use skills to express it.
Third: feel. It requires long-term appreciation, learning, and practice to make the presented pictures highlight the key points without losing the beauty.
It’s not difficult to learn graphic design well. The key is to ask more, practice and read more. If you don’t understand, ask more questions and ask the teachers and classmates. Practicing more means you must practice more every time the teacher assigns homework, try different effects, and make notes. Watching more is the print advertisement that you come into contact with in your daily life. You have to understand what methods and effects are used to make it, and what methods you will use if it is. I believe I will become an excellent graphic designer!
