Introduction
Section 3 Research Summary
(2) Current Research Status of Culture-specific Word Translation Strategies
The culture-specific word translation strategies proposed by Newmark , Baker and Axilla can be summarized as follows:
Table 1 Comparison of cultural-specific word translation strategies proposed by Newmark, Baker and Axilla
As can be seen from the above table, there are 4 types of translation strategies mentioned in the translation strategies of Newmark, Baker, and Axilla, namely loanwords, paraphrase, cultural equivalence, and deletion; there are 4 types of translation strategies It is mentioned by both of them, namely verbatim translation, classifiers, neutral words, and annotations; there are 7 types of translation strategies that are mentioned by only one, namely domestication, marked translation, recognized translation, component analysis, combination, illustration , Use synonyms.
This research focuses on the cultural-specific word translation strategy proposed by Newmark, and adds the "unified translation" method to it. Firstly, Newmark's theoretical system of culturally specific words is more detailed and comprehensive; secondly, Newmark's theoretical system of culturally specific words is applicable to the culturally specific words in this research. Therefore, this research mainly uses Newmark's theory as a guide to conduct a descriptive study on the translation strategies of culturally specific words in the novel (see Chapter 1 for details).
