NAT + routing? What are the disadvantages of the intranet doll model?

Speaking of NAT technology, I have to mention here, public IP and intranet IP.

If you are not clear about the concept of IP, you can read it first: Is it dangerous to expose your IP address?

Generally speaking, after accessing the operator's network, the operator (China Mobile, China Unicom, Telecom) will assign you an IP, anyway, whether it is the router you access or dial-up, there is always an IP.

At this point, we can also assign an IP to the router separately, such as 192.168.1.1, and then manually or through the DHCP function to assign the same network segment IP to the device connected to the router.

Compared with the IP assigned to us by the operator for broadband Internet access, the IP assigned to each device inside our router is the intranet IP. We can also simply say that it is the IP segment of our home LAN. The internal network IP needs to pass through the gateway (router) to be able to access the external network. At this time, the router at home forms a layer of NAT.

Since we can all play with routers ourselves, operators can naturally too. A public network IP generates multiple internal network IPs through NAT, and one of the internal network IPs is allocated to you.

Although you are happily surfing the Internet every day, and you feel like you are roaming in the world of the Internet, you are actually only within the operator’s "large local area network".

What if you don’t have a public IP? So let's listen to Xiao Rui.

1. Download

P2P downloading is one of the more popular methods, and Xunlei uses this model as a regional node for reference.

If you have a public IP when downloading, you can quickly find download resources.

If it is a non-public network IP, many resources may not be downloaded, presumably old drivers understand it.

Many people do not feel this gap in download speed, because they often download popular resources.

Popular resource operators are generally deployed in their own local area network, so your access to the intranet server is naturally fast!

2. Connection

For example, if you install a monitor at home and want to watch the monitored content outside, you often need a public IP at this time.

This is an example. After all, the public IP is the only address in the world, and it does not have to go through a third-party server. It is naturally very convenient to access your own machine outside.

Now that there is no public IP, it is not impossible to access the equipment at home, but it is more troublesome and requires intranet penetration.

Not to mention low efficiency, there are also security risks, and your data may leak through third-party servers.

3. Play games

If you only play "pesticide" or LOL, then assume that I didn't say it.

If you want to play international service, PS4 and Xbox One network connection and so on.

All need public IP to join, if it is the NAT of the large intranet, it will be useless!

Even if some games can be forgotten, the use of NAT dolls will often reduce the transmission efficiency.

I even got angry and hated to smash the computer.

However, the current domestic IPv4 addresses are insufficient, and there is no way! Wait, then! IPv6 will always be popular. It is said that every grain of sand on the earth can be assigned a public network IP. By then, the public network IP will probably not be valuable!
