Offer's non-stop technique how to make 5 big mistakes in interviews, have you been recruited?

This article will start with the "key mistakes" in the interview. It is my summary after interviewing a large number of candidates. In my mind, they are ranked in descending order of severity.

Come and see, have you been shot?

1. Explain the project without knowing the purpose and data

In the interview, we inevitably talk about the projects we have done in the past.

As an interviewer, my three favorite soul questions are: What is the purpose of the project? What business value does it bring? What did you do in it?

If we cannot answer the first two questions clearly, then the result is:

I don’t know the purpose of the project we have done, which shows that we don’t understand the business

Failure to understand business implies that we have no curiosity, lack of learning spirit, or lack of learning ability.

There is no curiosity, no spirit of learning, and no ability to learn, which shows that we are not suitable for being a product manager for an Internet company.

Some candidates said:

I have just worked, and I will do what the leader asks me to do, and I don’t think so much.

If I have only worked for 1 to 2 years, this can be forgiven. If you have worked for more than 3 years, this phenomenon still occurs...

In a fast-growing excellent Internet company, recruiters will mind this.

Not clear about the data performance after the project is implemented, which reflects that our work cannot quantify the value

Not paying attention to quantifiable value means that we do not have a business financial model in our minds.

There is no financial model in our minds, which means that we don’t know why we are responsible. We are still in the early stages of product manager positions.

Some candidates said:

My work cannot be quantified. I am a tool. How can tools be directly related to business data indicators?

For example, if I make a back-end system, it is online once it is online. How good or bad the business data is, it is not my influence.

Indeed, in many cases, the work of a product manager cannot directly affect the results of business data, or it is difficult to distinguish its effects. However, when the business model is established, the back-end system you design may be a tool to improve work efficiency in the subsequent stage of scale-up.

It's just that we can't feel it at this stage.

Therefore, whether the performance of the business data is related to you or not, you need to be aware of the performance of the business data.

2. Unable to structured expression and chaotic narrative

Can we express our opinions clearly in the shortest time?

Structured thinking, writing and expression are part of the logical thinking system.

This is a universal ability. Without this ability, what would happen?

When stating a thing or expressing a point of view, we can only think of what to say.

The most commonly used sentence pattern may be: first..., then..., then..., then... other people speak and write: the structure of "total-point-total".

One contrast, the superiority and the inferiority stand out.

The most important thing is that we will lose our professionalism in the daily writing of requirements documents and work plans by product managers.

Therefore, without a good structured expression, we will not be competent for the job of product manager.

How to do? Go back and read the "Principle of the Pyramid" three times and recite the full text.

3. Pay attention to the speed of response and give up the depth of thinking

When answering interviewer questions, we always want to be quick and smooth.

Because we always think: the world of martial arts, only fast is not broken.

But must this be good?

Really not necessarily. When answering some complex or macro questions, we need to think about time. If we want to be "fast", we will be more inclined to intuitive thinking, and the content of the answer may not be the optimal solution for the system.

In fact, in the interview, speed is not necessarily pursued. We can tell the interviewer:

  • I need to think for two minutes. You can even pick up paper and pen to assist thinking and presentation.

4. Ask what to answer and don’t know how to interact

In an interview, the interaction with the interviewer is very important.

Generally speaking, there are two interactive modes:

  • Computer-based: We will answer whatever the interviewer asks, answer accurately and not diverge. I think this method is not bad, but it will not bring highlights to the interview.

  • Smart biology: What the interviewer asks, we do not answer the question directly, but form an interaction with the interviewer.

How to interact?

When the interviewer asks a question, let's not answer the question directly, but first understand the "intention" behind the question:

  • Does the interviewer really want to know the specific answer to this specific question?

  • Still want to examine your thinking mode?

  • Or want to know if your resume is true?

After understanding the intention, we can "translate" the interviewer's question into another question, and then answer based on this question.

If the intention is not sufficiently confirmed, we can confirm with the interviewer: "Do you want to know the information about xx?"

This approach has many benefits: on the one hand, it avoids deviations in the definition and understanding of the problem between the two parties. On the one hand, you can also shorten the distance with the other party, establish a connection, and form a chat atmosphere.

After all, we are the communication between humans, not the input and output of the computer.

Through this kind of interactive mode, we can even transform an unequal "question me answer" interview into a comprehensive interactive chat, chat about professional knowledge, chat about personal values, and chat about other kinds of things you want to talk about...

5. When expressing yourself, you can’t empathize, and you can’t get out of your own world

Many candidates are proficient in professional fields. However, when expressing himself, he violated the big taboo of communication: not knowing how to think in different places.

Common phenomena are:

  • When interviewing in a cross-industry field, do not introduce the industry background in your field of work, but talk about your project;

  • Or say a lot of "professional terms" that can only be understood by industry insiders without any explanation.

The interviewer was confused and guessed, unable to assess the candidate's level. This is not effective communication.

Good communication should be to have sufficient empathy and adopt different communication methods for different objects. Can use simple, popular language, or even analogy, to explain the work in one's professional field clearly, so that the interviewer can immediately understand and be interested.

This is the master of communication. After all, let the interviewer understand your industry and business before fully understanding the value of your work.

Otherwise, isn't it likely to miss a good opportunity?
