A 36-year-old foreign company programmer’s self-report: There are still companies that treat employees as human beings

(Star those things about programmers)

Original: those things about programmers (id: iProgrammer)

During the epidemic, many companies exposed labor relations problems. I received a lot of private messages on Weibo, mostly programmers, but also non-programmers.

Some are accusing the company of violent layoffs,

Some are complaining about staying online at home on weekends,

Generally speaking, most of the negative ones.

On February 22 (Saturday) late at night, I received a private message from an old friend of programmers, who is 36 years old. He shared his company's situation during the epidemic.

The company he works for is a foreign company with no business in mainland China, but one of the R&D centers is in Shanghai. During the Spring Festival, the CEO in China made several decisions:

No. 1: The office is closed and all employees work from home

Prior to receiving the notice of resumption of work, any employee is not allowed to return to work without authorization. In special circumstances, an application must be submitted and recorded, but it has not been said when he can return to work.

No. 2: In accordance with Shanghai's resumption of work policy

Before resuming work, the holidays are extended. Those who need to work from the seventh day of the day are considered overtime, pay double the salary, and officially return to work.

No. 3: Employees who do not have a computer at home and office, buy their own computer, and the company will reimburse

Colleagues who do not bring a computer back home or do not have a computer at home are not convenient to work, can buy their own laptop. Send a screenshot of the invoice to Finance to be reimbursed, but there seems to be a configuration restriction, i5, 16G, 1T and the like, there is no restriction on the brand.

Because we are developing with a remote computer, this computer is also used by VP Enlian for remote use, not a directly developed machine.

No. 4: Don't worry about medical expenses, the company will reimburse it in full

If the employees or their spouses/children have any discomfort, the company does not recommend us to go to public hospitals (to avoid cross-infection), but to some good private medical institutions (there is a list for us, there is a large list, I did not read it carefully). Don't worry about medical expenses, the company will reimburse it in full.

Just like buying a computer, email to HR and financial illness history + invoice will be reimbursed, but our whole family is currently in good health. We haven't experienced this yet and don't want to experience it.

There are no other messy slogans, banners, face-saving projects, or formalism. I basically solve problems for employees at a few key points. I feel very satisfied with the company, so even if I work from home, I work with enthusiasm.

By the way, I’m 36 years old in 2020, and I’m currently one of the team’s lead programmers. The company has master programmers older than me. Everyone respects me (including me), so the simple 35-year-old rule is bullshit for us. Demonstrable code and a serious and responsible work attitude are the remaining capital.

I don’t want to show off. I just want to tell some very confused young friends that there are actually companies that treat employees as human beings. Not all companies only squeeze employees, and not all capitalists only need people under 35. , To have confidence in life.

Regarding labor relations, this old friend's sharing is a rare positive case in the private messages we received recently.
