Look at this model! How does the "Bridge Construction National Team" use CC for 3D modeling?

Application of UAV Real Scene 3D Modeling in Bridge Engineering

Due to the large scale and complex structure of urban bridge construction, many open-air high-altitude and deep-water operations, and the influence of rivers, there are many blind spots for observation in areas such as the bridge pile foundation and the side of the platform, which brings inconvenience to the dynamic observation of the scene.

In recent years, domestic large-scale bridge construction units have begun to use UAV real-world 3D modeling, mainly for early construction site surveys, earthwork measurement, and electronic sand table display.

UAV tilt photogrammetry is applied to the construction site of bridge engineering, and it can quickly obtain high-precision real-life 3D models of the construction site and various data results such as DEM, DOM, DLG, etc., and can intuitively grasp the natural environment of the site and existing traffic routes. It can quickly and accurately calculate the amount of excavation in the foundation pit, improve production efficiency and accuracy, and speed up the project delivery schedule to reduce costs.

Why choose Context Capture?

ContextCapture is currently the mainstream modeling software. The output 3D model is relatively fine and the accuracy reaches the centimeter level. It is also suitable for large-scale strip modeling of roads and bridges. It can provide design, construction and operation decisions during the entire life cycle of infrastructure projects. Accurate reference to the real environment background; at the same time, the real 3D model has accurate geographic location information. This provides enough technical details for later infrastructure applications to meet subsequent needs.

What problems and difficulties occurred in the modeling process?

When I first started learning ContextCapture, I basically relied on my own exploration and the help files that came with the software to build a model. However, when encountering various weird problems that appear from time to time, such as texture misalignment, broken LOD update of tiles, uneven data edges, and failure to keep up with the delivery of cluster projects, sometimes it may be repeated dozens of times. The crux of the problem must be found, and he is at a loss.

We have been using Zhongketu's new LSV software, and learned about Bentley's official training courses from the pop-up window. We just signed up for this because we had a need for it. The training is a small class teaching. Every student has time for self-practice and discussion. There are more opportunities for interaction and communication between the students and the lecturer. After participating in the training, they can independently operate the modeling.

The next application direction?

Our projects often lead to very large investment in time and labor costs due to preliminary construction site surveys. Now we are using real-world modeling of drones to solve this problem. After systematic training, we can use ContextCapture more proficiently and expand more application scenarios. At present, it is only limited to localized applications. In the next step, we plan to use the GIS platform to connect with BIM.
