Preface
Programmers have always been a group that has attracted much attention. In recent years, the Internet has developed rapidly, and concepts such as the industrial Internet have emerged one after another. The market has a particularly strong demand for programmers. The Programmer Inn released the "Survey Report on the Salary and Living Status of Chinese Programmers in 2020" in February this year. The report shows that the ratio of male to female programmers is 89.6%: 10.4%, close to 9:1. The programmer population is relatively young, with only 7.6% of programmers aged 35 and above.
From the feedback, everyone is very concerned about the impact of academic qualifications and working years on programmers' salary. Then we conducted in-depth investigation and analysis on this, and we will share the investigation report with you here.
1. Programmer's annual salary
Since it's about income, let's start with the programmer's annual salary. From the results of this survey, we can see that the average annual salary of programmers is about 150,000. The annual salary of programmers is normally distributed, mainly concentrated in the range of 50,000 to 250,000, accounting for 67.2%.
The proportion of programmers with an annual salary of 50,000-100,000 is 19.4%, the proportion of programmers with an annual salary of 100,000-150,000 is 21.6%, the proportion of programmers with an annual salary of 150,000-200,000 is 15.8%, and the annual salary is 20-25 10,000 programmers accounted for 10.4%, and programmers with an annual salary of 250,000 to 300,000 accounted for 7.6%. In addition, the proportion of programmers with an annual salary of 300,000 and above is 15.2%, and the proportion of programmers with an annual salary of less than 50,000 is only 10.1%.
2. Programmer's degree
As can be seen from the above figure, most programmers have a bachelor degree, accounting for 67.3% of the total. Programmers with a master's degree accounted for 6.8%, and those with a doctoral degree accounted for 2.2%. In addition, programmers with other degrees such as junior colleges accounted for 23.7% of the total. From the data point of view, the programmer group belongs to the highly educated group, which can be described as the mainstay of the Internet industry.
In addition, in this survey, the Programmer Inn also conducted a survey on the types of colleges and universities programmers graduated from. From the figure above, we can see that among programmers with a bachelor’s degree or above, 72.2% of their partners graduated from ordinary colleges and universities, 14.2% of their partners graduated from 211 engineering/double first-class academic institutions, and 10.8% Partners graduated from 985 engineering/double first-class universities and colleges, and 2.8% of the partners graduated from high-level foreign universities. This distribution is also consistent with the proportion of various types of colleges and universities in my country.
3. The impact of academic qualifications on salary
According to a survey conducted by the Programmer Inn, programmers with a bachelor’s degree or below have an annual salary of less than 200,000, and those with an annual salary of more than 200,000 account for 18.1% of this group. The annual salary of programmers with a bachelor's degree is mainly between 50,000 and 250,000. Those with an annual salary of 250,000 or more account for 20.3% of this group, and those with an annual salary of more than 200,000 account for 31.5% of this group. The annual salary of programmers with a master's degree is mainly 150,000 or more, and those with an annual salary of 200,000 or more account for 84.2% of this group. The annual salary of a programmer with a doctoral degree is mainly 500,000 or more.
From the survey results, the higher the education level, the higher the average annual salary of the group. Of course, programmers with different academic qualifications also have high-paying students, and the influence of academic qualifications on salary is not absolute. The data sample size of this survey is limited, and the data relationship here is not detailed enough, but it can reflect the general impact.
4. The impact of school category on salary
In addition to academic qualifications, the Programmer Inn also conducted a survey on the types of schools where programmers graduated. From the results, we can see that programmers who graduated from 985/211 schools have an annual salary of more than 150,000. Those who graduated from ordinary colleges and universities The programmer's annual salary is mainly between 50,000 to 25 million.
From the above figure, we can see that the average salary of programmers graduating from 985/211 school is higher than that of programmers graduating from ordinary colleges and universities. But this also reflects the whole, not the individual. The most important factors affecting programmer salary are technical level and project experience. No matter what school you graduated from, as long as the technical level can reach the corresponding height, the salary will also be mentioned to the corresponding level.
5. Years of working as a programmer
From the above figure, we can see that adult programmers with a working life of 5-10 years account for 34.9% of the programmers, and those with more than 10 years of work account for 5.4%. They are all senior programmers. Programmers who have just joined the job account for 26.6% of the total, programmers who have worked for 2-4 years account for 33.1% of the total, and programmers who have worked for more than ten years account for 5.4% of the total.
6. The impact of working years on wages
Programmer Inn analyzed the relationship between working years and wages, and the results are as follows. As we can see from the figure, as programmers' working years increase, their annual salary has also increased significantly. With the increase in working years, programmers' work experience, project experience, work ability and company ranks will all increase, so the increase in their wages is inevitable, and the survey results are in line with people's expectations.
7. The work of programmers affected by the epidemic
At the end of 2019, the outbreak of a new type of coronavirus has caused companies to be unable to resume work normally after the year, and many Internet companies are facing operational problems. In response to this situation, the Programmer Inn also added an investigation into layoffs at the end of this investigation.
From the survey results of the Programmer Inn, we can see that 56.1% of the people did not feel the layoffs, but 35.6% of the programmers were laid off or their colleagues were laid off. 8.3% of programmers were laid off in this wave of layoffs.
In fact, in the second half of 2018, there was also an outbreak of collective layoffs by Internet companies. At that time, the programmer inn also conducted an investigation on the situation at that time. At that time, 9.0% of the programmers were laid off, and they were unaffected and they were not affected. Layoffs, but the proportion of colleagues who were laid off is basically the same as this year.
Therefore, in fact, the impact of the epidemic on Internet companies is not as great as in other industries, and the 8.3% layoff ratio is actually in line with the annual pattern. 8. Programmers' willingness to work part-time
In this survey, Programmers Inn added a survey on programmers’ willingness to work part-time. 92.4% of programmers are willing to work part-time. Among them, 32.0% of programmers think part-time jobs can be tried, and 37.1% Although the programmers have not done part-time jobs, they are looking forward to it. 18.3% of programmers are already doing part-time part-time jobs, and 5.0% of programmers have become freelancers.
